How much for wedding cake

How much is everyone spending on wedding cakes? I got a estimate for 4K and I about fell out of my chair

Is it covered top to bottom in gold leaf? I love cake but I wouldn't pay that. Price depends on your location first off, since this is an international board. Then it depends if you're getting fondant that no one eats which is always more expensive compared to buttercream or cream cheese.

Keep looking. Try local grocery stores.

Wow. How many tiers are you looking at here?

I've seen cakes with high price tags, but they were enormous (think 7+ tiers) and by very, very high-end famous luxury cake designers.

$4k does seem high, unless you are somewhere that is well-known for a high standard-of-living (like NYC or California), getting a massive cake, and/or talking to a big-name designer.

In our area it seems to be $5 to 7 per serving.

Unless your guest list is like 800 people, that makes absolutely no sense. Someone added an extra decimal point somewhere or something.

Yeah, that seems insanely expensive. Our cake contract to a well-known cake bakery in the area was included in our venue contract. We got a 3 tier cake to feed 115 people. For reference, our venue was $130 per person for all food (cocktail hour and plated meal and full open bar), so the cake was part of that. And I'm in the NYC-metro area. Unless your cake is from a famous famous bakery, it's way too much.

Nope nope and nope. Do not pay 4K for a wedding cake. Way to high no matter where you live. My cake was made by a private baker not even a bakery. Was 4 tiers and was less than $1000 in a high cost of liviatea.

That is insanely expensive unless you're feeding 500 people or your design is very complex. In my area (VT) cake is $5-$14 per serving depending on how custom or fancy you get.

This sounds like someone made an error in the orice they gave you. Maybe they meant $400?
You can get a Sylvia Weinstein cake (possibly THE most famous wedding cake baker/artist in the country, who caters to movie stars, politicans, millionaires, etc.) that serves 200 people for $3,000.

Maybe they meant $400? At around $5 per slice that could make sense, which is about the norm. But 4K is absolutely insane.

I kept getting quotes that was like $600 for a cake serving 200 or so. I found a bakery that was able to do $275 or so for more than 200 servings

Woah, that's a lot! We had a rather high-end wedding cake for 120 guests in a very HCOL city and it was just under $1000. I can't imagine what a $4000 cake would look like

My cake is 650 for 100 guests and it’s covered in edible glitter and fresh flowers. 4k better be covered in elaborate fondant and feeding 1000 guests!!

I agree with the others that maybe they made a typo and meant $400!! Ask for clarification first, then go from there because $4k is WAY too much.

We're wanting to use a local baker and her wedding cakes are only 2 tier and start at $140. Since we're doing cookies instead of cake for our dessert option, this is perfect for us.

We’re getting a 3 tier custom cake being made, feed 70 for $800. And it comes with a free 1 tier cake on our 1 year wedding anniversary.
