How much does the average wedding cake cost?

Sandra, on August 8, 2017 at 4:16 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 78

Happy Tuesday, I'm curious as to how many layers is your wedding cake/cupcakes and how much are you paying per person.

.......................................................

*UPDATED BY WW IN 2020*

The average wedding cake costs between $300 to $700

According to our WeddingWire Cost Guide, the average cost of a wedding cake in the U.S. is around $500 with most couples spending between $300 to $700. Frosting type, size, and design complexity can all impact the cost, and in many places, cupcakes can be a bit cheaper.

The guide also has info on what goes into the total price of a wedding cake, what questions you should be sure to ask a wedding cake baker, and the option to filter and find the average cake cost in your location!

    St. Louis, Missouri- about $3/pp

We are doing 3 layers that will feed 75 then a sheet cake for the last 25.

3 tiers for $4 a slice which will feed 100. Doing a sheet cake at $2 a slice for the other 75.

ETA: the $4 a slice for the tiered includes filling and all decorations

We are getting mini donuts! They're $1 a piece and we'll probably order around 150.

Thanks @Mandi, that sounds very reasonable. I live in Maryland- $6-15 is what I have been quoted.

My cake was part of my package from my venue and they started at $2.25 a slice for basic. My cake was 4 tiers displayed and a top tier in a box for our first anniversary it was to feed 184 guests.

Honestly I'm considering getting a simple tiered cake from Publix or Sam's and adding some flowers. Cakes are so expensive!

Nothing...Really good friend just opened a bakery and offered to make ours as a gift. ETA: This "friendor" I trust with my life, so not worried at all about using her.

We are actually getting 8 dozen mini cupcakes for $200 plus tax and $75 delivery and setup on the cupcake stand. This also comes with a small square cutting cake.

I am in Rhode Island, our wedding is in MA...we are using Gerardo's Bakery. I don't remember the per slice cost...I believe it is 2.50 per slice and $2.85 per slice with fruit filling. For a 3 layer cake for 100 guests we are looking at about $325 with delivery! And the cake is the best cake we have ever had!

I'm also in Maryland, particularly the Baltimore area. I've looked into bakers who quoted me at $3-$5 per slice. Figured that was the average. I ended up getting a 3-tiered and half sheet for less than $300 with delivery for 75 guests.

Our cake is included in our venue, but they mentioned it was $3pp (meaning that if we wanted something higher, we would pay the difference). I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of cakes and enormity of choice we got at that price. The only extra thing we paid for was filling, at 25 cents per person.

This also includes an anniversary cake. We were given the option of saving up the top tier or just getting a fresh one baked for no extra cost for the anniversary. We chose the latter.
