The average wedding cake costs between $300 to $700

According to our WeddingWire Cost Guide, the average cost of a wedding cake in the U.S. is around $500 with most couples spending between $300 to $700. Frosting type, size, and design complexity can all impact the cost, and in many places, cupcakes can be a bit cheaper.

The guide also has info on what goes into the total price of a wedding cake, what questions you should be sure to ask a wedding cake baker, and the option to filter and find the average cake cost in your location!

Thanks for this post. I was just quoted $480. It's for two small two tiered cakes and 12 dozen cupcakes. I was afraid this was expensive so I started considering Wal-Mart or Sam's but I see it's just about right.

@sandra I live in NYC and am getting married in the Hudson Valley and Im being quoted $7-12 and around $250-450 to transport the pile of sugar from manhattan to upstate.

I've opted to go local and get a cake from a baker that will feed around 60 guests and then a variety of pies, cream puffs and cookies from another bake shops in the area.

I was just at a wedding Thursday, easily an $80k wedding and their 7 layer monster of a cake was totally STALE! We would never tell the bride, but all the guests at our table gasped.

Ours is included with our venue but the bakery it comes from is $6/pp. We're having 160-175 guests and 3 tiers with 2 flavors.

Mines a Bavarian cream cheese filled wedding cake and it's about $375 for 3 tiers design and will serve 75 people. My fiancé is doing his own grooms cake that will feed the rest of everyone. And I live in Oklahoma.

I'm doing a non-traditional cake so I'm pretty sure I'm not helpful to you. We are doing a three tier crumb top coffee cake wedding cake. We are getting enough for 85 people (even though we have 73 because we want tonsss of extra!). We ordered from a small independently run bakery and it's only $220 including delivery and setup
