How much did you spend for your wedding cake? Is $1,000k too much.

Azzie, on July 22, 2019 at 4:54 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 33

Trying to book the cake for my wedding, and I found someone who quoted me $1,000 for attached cake. This one has Swarovski and real flowers. What do you guys think? Is that too much?

How much did you guys pay for your cakes? Any pics you have..share please :-)

If it looks like that photo and it has Swarovski on it then $1k seems right.

We spent $600 on a 5-tier semi naked cake with fresh flowers & berries. Each tier was a different flavor. For the cake you have pictured, that price seems about right.

I certainly wouldn't have paid that much, because our budget for our whole wedding was only $10,000. But it's really just a question of what your total budget is, and how important the appearance (as opposed to taste) of the cake is to you.

It sounds way to high to me, but if it's what you want and you have it in the budget go for itSmiley heart

I think cakes come down to just what you want the most. I think if that's the cake you want, and you can afford it, go for it, but make sure you do a cake tasting first to make sure you will enjoy eating it as much as you will enjoy looking at it

Wow, that is one bedazzled cake! If you love it and it won't break the budget, go for it!

We're only spending $500 on ours for a two tier cake with an additional sheet cake.

Our cakes our a little over that, but it was part of our venue price. and since we went with the venues baker then we actually got some of the money taken off the venue lol confusing i know

Also we got our cake and grooms cake, so maybe thats why its also so expensive. Try finding a different baker and seeing what they will charge to make a cake similar?

A great piece of advice I got for wedding planning is to always get three quotes before deciding! However that cake is very decorated and I wouldn’t be surprised if the price tag was around 1k

I’m paying $450 for two cakes, one has one layer of gold. But i think $1000 is possible for the cake in that photo with the gold and crystals and height and icing flowers

Absolutely not, but that’s also not my style at all. If you like it and it’s in your budget, go for it.

I think $1,000 seems about right (or a really good deal depending on the number of servings) for that cake. I got a 4 tier cake that can feed 152 people for $608, and that was way cheaper than some of the other bakeries in the area! I got quotes for over $800. This is what I'm doing for $608 except the bottom tier will be covered in rosettes.

I have a strong feeling that that cake is purely decorative considering the cupcakes next to it. With all the flowers and jewels, I feel like it would be such a HUGE hassle to serve if it isn't decorative. I wouldn't want to spend that much on a cake considering that's the same price as my dress. Doesn't seem worth it to me, but to each their own.

How many servings will that cake be? $1000 might be a great price dependent on that. We’re paying $600 for a three tier cake for 75 people. $6.50 a serving plus fees for decor and delivery

My bakery charges $5 per person for fondant cake. Our guest list is over 300 and we are expecting around 275. Our baker suggested 20% less than expected, some people just don't eat cake. We are looking at $1100 for a 6 tier cake (4 tiers are faux), top tier to save, 2nd to bottom tier to cut and sheet cakes for serving. Plus delivery and set-up. I'm sure the extra cost is for the cost of decoration.

Depends where you’re located. In my area a wedding cake is $10-$12 a slice so $1000 wouldn’t be too much.

I'm with you on that. I don't think a cake adorned with real Swarovski crystals would be edible or possible to serve.

Wow! Beautiful cake and that is such a good price. I’m in the NYC area, and everything is just expensive here. LOL

This is such a beautiful cake to feed that much people. I’m actually thinking of not having Swarovski, I’m going to see if that would lower the price if I remove it.

That actually makes sense. Didn’t even think about that.
Woukd be awkward to remove the Swarovski before cutting, very tacky. LOL
