We are getting some pretty expensive quotes ($1000!) for a cake for about than 70-75 guests. Is that normal? How much did you pay/are you paying? We're getting our cake at the local grocery store (Pavillions) - a two-tier for cutting and sheet cakes to serve. Under $200 to serve 200 people. Try local grocery store or Costo/BJs. I've read expect $5-$6 per serving for a bakery "wedding" cake.

I didn't read all the comments, so this may have already been said. But naked/semi-naked cakes can actually be more expensive. Fondant allows bakers to easily cover flaws and mistakes. But when the cake is naked, it requires more precision and near perfection.

3 tier that feeds 60 and an Xbox grooms cake that feeds 30. $215 for both. I lucked out big time. Yay Sunday wedding!
