Valerie, on May 9, 2013 at 10:33 AM Posted in Planning 0 54

Hello ladies

How much are you guys planning on spending for alcohol at the reception? Are you having an open bar.....and what good alternatives are there to having one? we're having about 100 guests.

Thanks for the help! Smiley smile X

I am no help because my venue incorporates all food and open bar. Total (w, tax, tip, service fee) it'll be $123/person. In my area, that is a STEAL.

Alternatives can just be bottled wine per table. You can look for places that will buy back unopened bottles to save you some money!

We are doing beer and wine only open for four hours. Our venue charges $5 per person/per hour. So $20/person. We are having 125 guests, and 115 are over the age of 21. So $2,300.

We are doing beer and wine open bar and then 2 signature cocktails for the 1 hour cocktail hour. We are going to have about 175 guests and the caterer estimated it would be about $1200 (it all depends on how much people drink though).

A good alternative would be open bar for beer and wine, but only serve hard liquor during cocktail hour in the form of signature drinks. People go nuts at an open bar.

We have a partial open bar - basically, we'll institute a tab that can be used to purchase beer, wine, and a signature drink (orange crush, my favvv). Anything else (shots, specialty drinks, etc.) can be purchased with cash. Once the tab runs out, it's a cash bar unless some drunk uncle throws down his Amex or something.

We're paying $2700 - $2K for the tab itself, and the remaining $700 goes to taxes, bartender fee, and a tip. We are inviting 150 guests. Beer/wine is $4 and mixed drinks are $7, so our tab *should* cover 2-3 drinks per person.

I am having an open bar, (well that's what my venue calls it, but its actually LIMITED bar, we get a certain set amount of liquor, beer and wine for about 17.00 per person (So about $3,000) if we use it all, (which I have a feeling we will....EEEK!) it will be $40.00 a bottle. I think if your venue allows it, signature drinks are a great idea.

Absolutely nothing! Our venue is smack dab in the middle of a state park, so no alcohol allowed. We could have champagne, but that would be $600 plus paying $35/hr each for two security officers, no thanks.

It's coming out to 44 per person at our venue, but that's a fully hosted bar for 5 hours. Our venue have us lots of options (beer and wine only, bringing in your own w/a corkage fee, buying only a certain amount, table service only) it all depends on what your venue will and won't let you do.

My venue charges $75 per person for premium bar, which includes champagne as well. The cost goes down the lower the quality alcohol that you request or if you just want beer or wine.

Ours is $21 per person for 4 hours, it includes their own beer (it's at a brewery, with like 12 different options), domestic bottled beer, wine, "call liquor", and pop. However, we just have it as part of our reception package so we don't really see the final cost of it. Oh and the last hour of the reception we r going to do a cash bar since people tend to slowly stop drinking by that point anyways.

We're having an open bar and it's included in the price. Then again we're east coast and I've learned on WW that it seems open bars are regional.

I know there's lots of options though.

You could do beer and wine only.

You could do beer, wine and a signature drink.

You can do signature drink only.

You can set a limit that you want to pay and it reverts to a cash bar after your limit is spent.

It does depend on your venue though.

We're having beer, wine and signature sangrias. We're supplying the wine and being charged $3 corkage fee. Because we're supplying the wine in general and for the sangrias its only 12.95/pp. We're at 165 invited but anticipate more like 150 so with tip and such it will be high 2k but no more than 3k

Our venue is BYOB. So, we are doing 3 signature drinks and 3 different kegs of beer. This is one alternative to an open bar. It is saving us money. The reason we have 3 signature drinks is because I wanted one from each..... one vodka, one tequila and one rum. Our package includes unlimited sodas. So if someone does not want one of the signature drinks we can make something like a rum and coke or a shot.

The venue includes champagne for toasts and such, and we put $1000 toward the bar tab which is beer and wine only. I think we're also taking the included 2 wine bottles per table and adding them to the bar tab, so that makes it about $1700 for 100 guests. If they drink it all up before the reception ends, then they can drink iced tea and lemonade and go out after Smiley smile

We are having a cocktail hour w/open bar & our 4 hour reception is with an open bar & plated dinner. Total cost per adult $80 & in NJ it's a true bargain.

Ours is included in the package we chose. It was $65/pp for the entire buffet/apps/cake and 4 hours of open bar, but we also got 20% for a special they were running, so it's really $51/pp. Best deal in town.

We are going to let the bar stay open past the 4 hours and just pay per drink until the reception is over. We may end up with a bar bill of a couple/few hundred dollars.

Ours is food plus 3 hours open bar for 61 a person. (plus 20% plus tax) so really its 78 a person. One more hour would have been 6 a person which we couldnt afford so one hour will be cash bar.
