How many weeks before the wedding should invitations be sent locally?

Emma, on April 3, 2014 at 10:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Hi

I want to know how many weeks before the wedding invitations should be sent locally. (Not for those out of town) Should it be 6 weeks before the wedding? 4 weeks? Do you have any idea?

And how many weeks before the wedding should I already know how many people are coming? People need to have time to respond. I don't know how many weeks in advance I should send them out. I need to start sending the ones for the people that live locally pretty soon and I don't know when. I already sent the ones out of town.

A lot of it is dependent on when you have to give a final head count by. 6-8 weeks generally.

I would send the local ones out now. You don't want someone from out of town to talk about getting an invite and people locally finding out. They may get offended. How did you send out invitites if you didn't have an RSVP yet? RSVP date may depend on when your caterer needs final numbers. I would make the RSVP date 1-2 weeks before the caterer needs them so you can contact ppl who did reply.

Most of the people on here who are getting married the same day as you have already begun to send out their invitations. My invitations will go out the end of this month with a May 28th RSVP date due to needing our numbers the first week of June.

I'm sending mine April 14th for our June 14th wedding. I requested the return day to be by May 14th. That gives me a month to track people down, get final numbers, make a seating arrangement, and get final counts to my vendors. And it also gives them a month to figure out if they can come.

Generally the invitations are sent about 6-8 weeks before wedding. But I would suggest to send invitations to the local people 4-5 months before wedding.
