How many times have you changed your wedding date?

Jennifer, on April 20, 2019 at 12:01 AM Posted in Planning 0 24
I’ve only been engaged 2 months and already we’ve changed the date three times. Is it just us?

We knew we wanted to get married around our dating anniversary. We moved the year up once but that was it.

That’s exactly what we did the last time. We were going to shoot for 3/10/20 (3/10 is our anniversary), but my FH needs a knee replacement and we need another year. So 3/10/21 Smiley smile

We didn't really have a set date. I'm in school so we knew we wanted the summer. We picked the venue and then the date was based on availability. The date we chose just kind of felt right to us though. No specific meaning, but we were independently drawn to it.

We wanted to do May 11th because it's between both of our parents' anniversaries, May 3rd and May 18th, but the venue we wanted had a prom that day. So we decided to move the date to June 1st. We decided having that venue was more important than having that date. You don't really have a date until you book your venue so feel free to change it as much as you want.

We got engaged on Valentine's. I knew I wanted June and this June was too soon to be prepared.
    So we picked 6/6/2020
6 is his lucky number and I like the number doubles.
So once I picked it...it was set in stone 😆

That’s a really good point. Our Venue is open to us whenever we want it. Availability isn’t an issue.

Yay June 1st! That’s my bday. It’s a great month to get married. You’ll always have a 3 day weekend before with Memorial Day Smiley smile

After getting engaged my FH wanted the wedding date to be the date he asked me to be his girlfriend. But it was only 8 months away and I did not feel comfortable planning a wedding in that amount of time (plus saving for it as we're footing most of the bill).
So in thinking my FH came up with our 10-19-19 date as his birthday is the 10th of May, mine is the 19th of May and he asked me out on the 19th of March. Smart thinking on his part, and bam it indeed fell on a Saturday. So it was set!

Sometimes the date is chosen when you pick your venue. If there's a particular venue you like, you'll have to work with it's availability as well as your own. I didn't want a long engagement and my sister was due in April with baby number 2. (Any day now!) So June was the earliest she could do anything. That is why we picked June 23rd, 2019.

    Not at all just you!!

We're currently working on two weddings: A destination wedding of sorts (90 miles away in Tahoe) and a local one. It's about 110° locally in the summer, so if we have it in town then it'll need to be late spring or early fall as I want to be outside and not sweating.

But, if we can pull off the Tahoe wedding within budget, we'll aim for midsummer.

It's funny because people keep asking me the date and look at me a little strange when I give them a "summer-is 2020" answer. It juuuust happened at David's Bridal lol. But when we find the right venue, we'll know, and settle on a date.

A few changes in the beginning is probably pretty normal.

I would have a loose date then look at venues. We changed the date once.

Once we set our date that was that. I wanted to get married before I graduated and not knowing our schedule until 3 months before we had to pick a weekend we knew i wouldn’t have school. (Saturday classes, yay!) We got married MLK weekend. If a venue didn’t have that available we crossed it off our list and moved on.

We found our venue first then chose the date. We knew we wanted late July or early August and a Friday wedding. We landed on August 9th. Only 110 days!!!

Once we picked an official date, it stuck. We got engaged in Sept. we decided a late Apr/May/early June wedding would be too rushed so then we decided on late Sept/Oct/early Nov. We found our venue and picked our official date based on their availability.

No, not at all. We’ve been engaged since December 2018 and we’ve not only changed our date three times or so we even changed our date after booking the church and photographer. Thankfully they were available that day as well.
