How many times did you want to give up?!

Taylor, on August 10, 2019 at 3:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
Let me preface this by saying, I’ve only been engaged two months and we are having at least a two year engagement 😂 so I know I’m being dramatic! So please don’t tell me so lol.

I’m just feeling defeated today 😞 I have a venue I LOVE that is all DIY, but they at least offer tables and chairs. I love the freedom we have to choose everything we want, because I didn’t like many aspects of the all-inclusive places I’ve looked at.
BUT I thought for sure we’d be able to save so much money this way, and we are a little. But the number is slowly creeping up more and more as I add more estimate costs of things, and it just makes me want to say “forget it!”

The biggest thing upsetting me today is realizing that doing a September wedding causes our cost to go up. Doesn’t $6300 seem like a lot for a place that only offers tables and chairs? Ugh.
That cost is for two days though, so we have one day for setup and rehearsal and one day for ceremony, reception, and cleanup. I guess maybe we’ll have to cut down to just one day to save money?

Yea sometimes diy doesn't exactly save more money Smiley sad it also definitely doesn't save time either. But you're right, it doeS help you have more freedom

That's got to be discouraging! Is there any other venue you could get that would be more cost efficient?

My venue is cheap but doesn’t include any rentals, all that is a separate cost. But we’ll have everything for the whole weekend. I personally think it’s worth the cost to have the convenience, especially since we’re traveling from out of state and I need extra set up time. I’ve been engaged for 16 months and I’ve had many difficult moments where I wanted to give up. It’s coming together though. Everything that I freaked out about worked itself out.

I wanted to give up a couple times.... especially when we realized that we had no idea how much weddings cost lol.

I think it took a combination of changing our expectations, a little bit of extra saving, and cutting the guest list a bit to get where we wanted to be. And definitely recognizing trade-offs - at first I wanted to go with a DIY venue that fit my dream wedding but once I realized it wouldn't save us THAT much money, I went for something all inclusive for less stress. No regrets so far, but the wedding is in 3 weeks, so we'll see!

Ann, that sounds a lot like how I think I’ll need to be! Think I really set my heart on things too quickly and got overly excited when I thought I was saving money...so it was a huge disappointment to realize I might not be. Luckily we have plenty of time, I think I need to take a break from obsessing over it for a couple weeks, then can maybe get my head back on straight!

Also know that it would help to cut the guest list down...but that’s going to require an awkward conversation with my FMIL 😓 their family’s list is like twice the size of mine, inviting everyone and their brother! & my FH refuses to be the one to cut anyone. Ugh!

Cher, I’m still looking and hoping to find something. I’ve found other diy places that are a lot more expensive than ours, so I know ours isn’t the worst of it at least! Some all inclusives might be more cost effective since they offer more with set up and planning, but I’d have to sacrifice most of my vision if I go with one of those. Think I just need to take some time to re-evaluate!

I think i had 2 complete sobbing melt downs.
It does seem like a lot to me, but it’s 2 days. My venue was $2,000 for 12 hrs and only included tables and chairs. So about $3,000 for all day isn’t so bad.

These days I'm ready to give up almost every other day. My FH had a last minute realization of how he wanted the ceremony to be and we realized certain things were possible. As a result I'm scrambling to figure out how to change things to fit that change. Although, I will say I'm actually pretty happy with the change in question just wish we had sorted this out sooner.

Cassidy, ours is more like 4500 for just 10 hours on one day 😕 to add the extra day/8 hours is another 1800. So it almost seems worth it to tack on a bit more for an extra day/hours for setup and peace of mind. But maybe not lol. I’m not sure yet.

Oh wow. That is a lot for one day. The addition of the second day does sound like a good deal then.
I saw you said it’s one of the cheaper ones in your area. Will you be setting up or will someone else be doing it? If someone else is doing it, I think one day will be plenty. If you don’t get the second day, can you still drop your stuff off the day before?
I think its a good deal, but at he end of the day, it’s what your budget can afford. $1,800 can definitely be used for quite a bit.

We set everything up ourselves (tables, chairs, secs, everything except what caterer brings in) and nothing can be brought in until our time that day starts. It feels like a very small time frame to set everything up to me.
