Talk to your priest/deacon. My parish ran a workshop about wedding music, which was also very helpful. They gave us a handful of songs that are typically used for Catholic ceremonies.

It's depends on the church. My priest allowed secular music, he just asked me to keep it clean (for obvious reasons lol). I had a processional song for bridal party and parents and groom, one processional for me, a song for the gifts, communion song, a song for the flowers for the blessed mother, recessional song. In between and the beginning, when people were seated, we did instrumental music. We hired a ceremony musician, and didn't have the choir or a playlist.

Are you doing a full mass or no mass?

Check with your marriage prep coordinator at your parish. At our parish, they have important guidelines on music, and they have each couple meet with the parish music director to select choices. I'd really like Trumpet Voluntary for our processional. Now, hopefully we can find a trumpeter! Smiley smile

Agree with the above posters, with the addition that it can vary greatly based on what elements you're including in your ceremony. I had just the most simple version of a ceremony so I just needed a song to walk in to and one to walk out to, but I know from my meeting with the church accompanist that if I had other elements which some Catholic ceremonies have, like an offering to Mary or a unity candle for example, that would likely have added music. Certainly if you have a full mass it'll add songs too. The church will help you make all your decisions.

@Rebecca we used Trumpet Voluntary for ours, but we just had it played on the pipe organ, hehe!

I think it will greatly depend on if your having a mass or not and on. If you do other elements like @WWJo mentioned, you might need more songs. You should really talk to your church and coordinator and even people who have played at that church in previous weddings so you can have a better idea.

I'm having a Catholic wedding with mass so I will need to look into this as well.

I'm not having a mass. I want a song to seat my guest, the mother's and grandmother's, my entrance song, a song after ring and vows, then the processional. Do ya'll think that is to many songs
