How many registries are too many?

Amanda, on July 29, 2016 at 7:46 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 37

We haven't really started our registries yet (yes I know we're late to the game!).

I can't decide which registries to post on our wedding website. We have signed up at Target and Macy's (nothing on the registries yet though). I also wanted to sign up at Pottery Barn. FH wants to sign up at Crate & Barrel.

So before we go out and do our thang at each of these stores, how many is "acceptable" to be registered at? Is there a maximum?

I think 1 or 2 are common. 3 is on the borderline but no more than that.

I agree that more than 3 seems excessive. I would keep the Target one because a lot of times they have more reasonably priced items that will help your guests that are on a budget. Macy's is also very popular and has nice items in a range of prices. I would then try and choose Between Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel personally .

I think it also depends on how much you are registering at each store. If you had four stores, each with a relatively small registry I think that would be fine. But four medium/large registries seems like a bit much to me.

We're going with Target and Macy's. Good selection, variety of price points, accessibility to lots of stores for those who want to shop. I'd keep it at 3 or less as you can run the risk of looking gift-grabby.

I would go with 2. We are only registered at one (bed bath and beyond) and everything we want is there so we haven't signed up for the 2nd yet...

Crate and Barrel and Pottery Barn are really similar. We made it a point to choose between these two and went with Crate and Barrel. We have three total- Macy's, BBB, crate and barrel

We are doing three. Our primary one is at Bed, Bath and Beyond. We have a small one on Amazon (which I've heard you can link to other stores, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do this) and a small one on Etsy.

I think 2 is good. One at a big store (like BBB, Target, Macy's) and one at a special store (like Sur La Table, Pottery Barn, etc).

I'm doing 2. Amazon & bbb. I think most I've seen have been registered for 2, some have done 3. I've never seen 4.

We did 2---BBB and Crate and Barrel. I think anymore than 3 is too much.

Anything more than 2 gets a side eye.

We did 3, with each one being pretty small. I think 4 or more would be excessive.

I've got 3 right now, Zola (which is awesome!) as my main one, BBB, and Kohl's with a couple items each.

    (Shameless promoting ahead)

Zola is online only which is fine for the majority of my guests, since I have the majority of my items on that one. You can choose when you want a gift to ship, which is great because FH and I don't actually have our own place yet so we'd have a bunch of crap piling up with nowhere to put it.

If you want a few things from a few places use amazons universal registery tool.

Great advice you guys! We will likely choose either Crate and Barrel or Pottery Barn. We would not want more than 3, ever. I think we'll have to take a walk through each store and see which store has the most items we would want/like and then make the cuts from there. We might only find a couple things we really like from PB or C&B or Macy's. I think that will be the best way for us to decide. We will hopefully end up with 2 total.

4 is too many, IMO. Those places basically all sell the same stuff! I registered at BB&B, Target, and a small registry on Etsy. The Etsy registry was all personalized items.

We had 4 registries. We had specific wants from each store and I didn't want to settle just because one store didn't have exactly what we wanted. We only have a small number of items per store.

I use MyRegistry.com so I can register for items from any online retailer with having everything in the same place. It also can be sync'd with registries like Amazon and BBB so you just click a button and everything you've added to one registry is immediately added to your MyRegistry. There's also a bookmark you can put on your browser so as you're browsing the internet if you see something you like you just click the bookmark and it gets automatically added to your registry.
