How many registries are too many?

We haven't really started our registries yet (yes I know we're late to the game!). I can't decide which registries to post on our wedding website. I can't decide which registries to post on our wedding website. We have signed up at Target and Macy's (nothing on the registries yet though). I also wanted to sign up at Pottery Barn. FH wants to sign up at Crate & Barrel.

So before we go out and do our thang at each of these stores, how many is "acceptable" to be registered at? Is there a maximum?

I did 3. I think you need to think about your guests and what registry they are likely to use. I registered at a little shop in my hometown because everyone from there buys wedding gifts there. Then I also registered at Target and Walmart to make it more convenient for all of our guests that are not from my hometown.

We did 3, which was not excessive. Crate & Barrel is fantastic! They even have registry events for couples with the store closed just for registry parties, and we got a free gift. A store was pretty far from us, so my partner and I made a fun date of it. We also did Target, and a third registry for a very specific vendor that is uniquely my husband. Giving people options is something I've always appreciated as a guest searching for a gift. I don't think you are behind btw!!

I had 3 - the main ones being Kohls and Walmart. The other one is a local store in my small hometown. I think location of the shower plays a part in how many.

I think we'll do 2 - one higher end store and one Target/Macy's/BB&B type store

We have 2 registries, Amazon and BBB. The Amazon registry is small and we put stuff on it from various stores were there was only 1 thing we wanted because you can add stuff not on Amazon to the registry. The BBB is our main registry. I think 4 registries is a little much.

3 tops, even though I personally think that is even too much.

I think any more than three is obnoxious.. Three is even pushing it

I did three, but only registered for 20 items at Target, 30 at BBB, and 3 at Macy's. Honestly, I would have only registered at BBB if my VIP guests wouldn't have asked me to do the others.

We may end up with three... Only because our dishes are a less common pattern and have to be ordered directly from Denby. We tried to find a pattern available at Macy's or BBB but just couldn't agree on anything. FH has a weirdly specific aversion to patterns on the part of dish that food touches. I was finally able to convince him it would be okay on JUST the salad plates. (I LOVE patterns.) We'll also register at Bed Bath and Beyond, and maybe Target.

3 is almost too much. 4 is too much. 1-2 is more appropriate.

We have eclectic taste and didn't want to compromise, so we actually have registered mainly on ZOLA, which is awesome because its well formatted and online. We also have smaller registries with crate and barrel, bed bath & Beyond, Food52, and Williams-Sonoma. We uploaded them all to the ZOLA registry to keep it central and easy for guests and only made the individual registries at the stores to take advantage of the completion discounts. We have made all of the typical store ones unsearchable to ease confusion. No guest has indicated that they are having trouble with it, but we don't have an older crowd at all and they can all use the internet well.

We have 3 but two of them only have a few things on them. Much of what we registered for is for fulfillment reasons too. Like things I will definitely buy or try to buy if someone else doesn't but I want the 10% or 15% or whatever it is discount after the wedding.

I think 1-2 is appropriate, and I wouldn't do more than 3. At that point, if you're only doing 1 or 2 things at a specific store, just wait until after your shower/wedding. I'm sure you'll receive money and you can just gift yourself those items.

ETA: Spinoff from Alice because I forgot about completion discounts, if you only have 1 or 2 things at a store make the registry and just don't advertise it.

I think 2-3 is good. We had 3: BBB, Macy's, and Amazon. Our Amazon registry was much smaller than the other 2.

I've always seen 3. I think that's good because then you can do one that's more general (Amazon/Target/Macy's), one that has more "gadgets" (BBB, Williams Sonoma) and one that is perhaps more high end (Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel). Granted all of those stores have a mix of things, but I think each store has its strengths depending on what you most need for your home.

Four, I think, is too many. If I were you, I'd do Pottery Barn based on the other two you listed, but maybe just go for a walk through at both Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel if they're located near you to think more about what you need most.

We went with three - originally we just had two, Macy's and BB&B, but then FH's parents told us we should register somewhere swankier because they have a lot of very wealthy friends (his dad's a politician/elected official), so we have some pricier stuff registered at Anthropologie. I would say that at least 70% of our stuff is registered at Macy's, though.

I have 3 because the things we wanted were not all on one. I deleted the forth one! 2-3 is good. Smiley smile
