How many readings are you doing in your ceremony?

Private User, on July 22, 2015 at 8:12 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

Need some help, seem to be over thinking this! We are 2 months away and we are meeting with our Pastor tonight for marriage counseling and to show him our reading choices. We have selected a biblical passage we want but there are 2 readings I am thinking of including to the ceremony as well. Thank you WW ladies because you were the inspiration for those readings. Do you think have 2 is too many? Or am I just over thinking this?

Have you ever been to a full mass wedding ?! 2 readings will be fine, it's your day!

Every church wedding we have been to has had 2 readings. I think two is the most common. We are not going the church route, so we can pick how many we want- still deciding between 1 or 2.

I should have let you all know that we are not doing it in a church but at a country club and the Pastor is a good friend of my FH.

Thank you for putting my mind at ease that 2 is not too many. I seem to panic or stress about the little things.

We aren't having any readings but FW isn't very religious and our ceremony will be very simple.

We are having 3 readings. It was painful to pick them out... and even worse finding people that wanted to read. I wish we could have done 1-2.

We are going to have three readings, none of them being particularly religious, but I wanted to incorporate my three brothers. FH liked the idea of doing three readings because three is a prime number, is only divisible by one and itself as well as the general symbology of three in all cultures and religions, and he was happy to point out that in odd numbers one is too few and five is too many.

We're having two, I think as well. We are having a secular wedding so if we just say "I do" it'd be over within five seconds. Plus I'd like to show the attendees what our relationship is about and what we hope for the future- which could be done through readings. I think 2 is fine!

We are doing 3, but in hindsight of asking people, wished we were only doing 2. Based on everything I have read and the weddings I have been to, it seems that anywhere from 0-3 are normal. I think the more important part is the LENGTH of the reading than the actual number of them. We're giving each reader a maximum of 1:15.

So far his sister is reading one. I really want to have his family more involved. Because I didn't meet his siblings until after bp was already chosen. And we had to keep that small because fh isn't close to anyone, so I would love to have three and have his two brothers read as well
