How many photographers are really needed?

Kim, on July 15, 2012 at 7:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

We are having a sunset wedding on the beach with 40-50 guests and a total of 8 in the bridal party (4 bridesmaids and groomsmen). We have researched photographers and are unsure how many are really needed for our size wedding. Is 1 photographer sufficient? Is 2 photographers worth the added expense?

It really depends on what you want and what is important to you. Having 2 photographers can give you 2 different perspectives. There are times that my daughter and I have both shot the exact same moment...from 2 different perspectives. It makes for very unique photos.

There are some photographers that do great on their own. However, I love having backup if I have a camera glitch...seldom happens, but I know without a doubt a crucial moment won't be missed. So it's up to what you want, as well as the photographer you are looking at. Hope this helps. Smiley winking

    Edited:

We are researching this as we speak. We are considering 4 photographers. The church where we are getting married has a balcony. One will be on the balcony, 1 at the pew, one overhead and another in the foyer.

In my opinion, at least 2 are a wise decision.

I would be comfortable shooting this size wedding alone, and know that I would get all the necessary shots. I bring back-up equipment with me, in case of any equipment problems. For me, a wedding at sunset on the beach with 40-50 sounds very romantic! ...I think having more than one photographer zipping around would ruin the mood. Congrats!

Most people I know IRL have only had one photog for all sized weddings and felt really happy with their results. I don't think it would be any detriment to have just one with a smaller guest list.

We did decide on two because it does fit our budget, both came highly recommended by a professional friend, and we think the "whole package" we intend our wedding to be will be better captured with two. Our venue is indoor/outdoor so I'm excited to see pictures from what's happening in either place when FH and I aren't there.

I don't know if I'd say that it's necessary, but the studio I used had two included, which was nice. When we were getting ready, one came to shoot me while the other went to my husband.

Im actually having 2 photographers and 1 video. 1 Photo with me and 1 with the groom. I always see pictures of when the bride is getting ready and nothing about the groom.. Techincaly it is his day as well. LOL I just really wanted to see what he was going to be doing. Smiley smile

But I really think just 1 is good since yours is somewhat of a small wedding.

I think it would be good to have 2 if you can afford it, but 1 could do it just fine. The photographer we where originally going to book (got pregnant so she couldn't shoot our wedding) shot by herself, but our new photographers are a husband and wife team.

If you are doing a first look keep in mind that if you only have 1 photographer they can't capture both of your expressions at teh same time.

We are having two photographers Smiley smile We have nine bridesmaids, nine groomsmen and a flower girl. Large wedding party, large wedding in general. We thought it was well worth the additional cost for a second photographer, just to make sure we catch all of the days memories!

No photographers are needed. The issue is what photos are important enough to you to justify the cost. We were primarily concerned with getting good photos of the ceremony, and some formals afterward, so one photographer was enough. My daughter isn't all that concerned about photography, and will just rely on photos taken by family and friends, no professional photographer at all. However, if it is really important to you to have getting ready photos of you with your attendants and the groom with his, and they are getting ready a long distance apart, you might want two photographers.
