How many hours is your wedding?

Mrs Lilow, on January 4, 2011 at 4:21 PM

I've had wedding planners tell me the weddings that go til midnight are mostly empty by 11 anyway. Is 6 hours the standard? Thats what I'm doing anyone doing more or less?

We have 30 mn for guests to arrive and be seated, 30 mn for ceremony, an hour cocktail and 3 hours for reception, so that's a total of 5 hours, if we feel like we need more we can always add extra at a per/person rate, but I'm sure 5 hours will be more than enough. And the place will be available to us, 3 hours prior to the starting time for set up

Our was only 4 1/2 hours long because the venue did not allow anyone to be there longer than that.

Our ceremony starts at 4 and the reception starts right after and will go to midnight. I have no doubt that it will continue on even after that! I think it all depends upon your family and friends.

I'm not sure on ceremony time as of yet; but I'm assuming that will be half an hour plus allowing them to come early for seating; but our reception is from 5-10; I was kinda wondering if that was too long, but we are having a sit down and will have quite a few young partiers and have open bar (for those over 21 obviously)..for those that wanna stay later we are having kind of an afterparty as there is an onsite bar with karaoke plus a free shuttle to the casino across the street..(i'm guessing that will be family and close friends staying over at the hotel).

My ceremony is at 6:30, my cocktail hour is 7-8pm and dinner/reception starts at 8pm-midnight. It was going to be until 11 but I extended it for an extra hour because I have all OOT guests and they are the kind that would party till dawn if they could lol. So mine all and all is 5 1/2 hours? And I still look at the schedule and think it looks crammed lol. Depending on the size of the wedding you could totally pull of 3-4 hours with less that 75 people in my opinion. How big is your wedding? :-)

As with a lot of things, it probably depends on your family/friends/where you live/etc. I've only ever been to ONE wedding EVER that ended before midnight. Most are still rocking until 1 or 2 am. Things work a little differently around here though (every vendor I'm working with charges for the whole day/night instead of by the hour). We have our reception venue all day until 2 am (when bars have to close in MI) but the guests have to be out by 1 am. Our DJ charges a flat rate for the event. So our reception will last from 4:30 when the cocktail hour starts until 1 am, so 8.5 hours.

The actual wedding, including ceremony and luncheon will only be about 2 1/2 hours long. BUt we are meeting up to party with some people later that night, which will probably be 3-4 hours.

About 3-4 weeks later, we will be doing our 'at-home' recpetion (aka party at our house). If it's anything like most of the parties we have at our home, we start around 4 in the afternoon and by noon the next day most people have left...

I am doing a Mass at 3:30, but the cocktail hour doesn't start until 5pm and dinner at 6pm. We are going until midnight. So that is either 8.5 or 7 hours long, if people actually stay until 12, that is just how long we have the venue for. This is typical for weddings in my family and culture, and we are having a multiple course seated dinner and open bar and lots of dancing, so I am not worried about it.

My ceremony starts at 4:00 and should be about an hour and then my reception will go until 9:30-10:00 (dont want my son going to be too late..) So I guess my answer would be about 5 HOURS.

Our ceremony starts at 7pm and runs until 12:30am so 5 hours this includes cocktail hour, sit down dinner, an open bar. My family likes to party so I added an extra hour.... lol

Ours will most likely be about 6 hours as well from beginning to end:

1/2 hr ceremony (I am not a fan of long ceremonies so it may even be shorter then this ... not sure yet)

1 1/2 hr cocktail hour (making it a little longer since we are having a Friday night wedding and this will give guests a chance to relax a bit before the big party)

    4hr reception

We haven't figured out the times yet but I am figuring maybe 5-11 (our venue has a music cut off time of 11pm since it is also a bed and breakfast)

I am not sure yet. Our venues are a theatre and a ballroom in the same building. I can be in the building from 8:30 am until midnight. So dependng on when our ceremony starts either afternoon 2-3 or 5-6 pm. I expect the afternoon one to be over by 6 or 7 and the evening one over by 11 pm so we have a chance to clean up before being out of time.
