How many for S'mores bar?

Laura, on October 9, 2015 at 4:36 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

We are serving heavy apps for dinner, will have cake and a little bit of pie (not nearly enough for everyone, it's in lieu of the groom's cake). So a little later in the evening we are having a s'mores bar. Right now my count is right at 100 people give or take a few. So do I tell the caterer to do it for all 100? there will be less than 10 kids there and I know not everyone will have one. So, any ideas or suggestions on what my number should be? Caterer was just like "whatever you want" lol.

I was really close to a s'mores bar, but decided against it at last minute. When we were discussing it with our caterer, they recommended doing it for all the people there. While all 100 people may not want one, you don't want someone to not have the option because it ran out. In addition, some people may have more than 1.

Nah we did one! But i would only do 50 to be honest unless you wouldn't mind having a TON of extras. I think all the ingredients have a pretty long shelf life?

    YES. ALL THE YES!

We are absolutely having a s'mores bar. It an outdoor wedding on my aunt's farm with a big bonfire later on. I was just planning to buy a bunch of marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers...hadn't even thought about numbers yet lol. I am not worried about having extras since I will eat them :p.

I just emailed to ask if I can bring favor bags in case we have leftovers. If she'll let me do that, I'll lean more towards the full 100.

Yeah, honestly if i was at a wedding and i found out they ran out of s'mores i would think "damn i wasn't fast enough" not "wtf why did Laura not buy enough S'mores" since they're kind of an extra thing.

Anyone you have there who is a vegetarian or vegan isn't likely to participate other than just snacking on chocolate and graham crackers (unless of course you get veggie marshmallows!) so if you have a bunch of veggies that might change your count.

    Haha Emily!

Reggie, that's interesting! I can understand the vegan, but why would the vegetarians not eat them? We will have 6-10 people there who are either strict vegetarian or somewhat (eat vegetarian majority of the time, but not 100%, especially in group situations).

I actually think the biggest issue will be whether or not you expect a lot of people to leave by then. We had them, and they were super popular, but we basically put them out right after cake so that people would know they were there. A lot of ppl leave right after cake, but if they know that something else is coming, they may end up staying a bit.

Do marshmallows have gelatin? = animal byproduct.

Yes, they do have gelatin. However, in my experience only the strictest of vegetarians actually worry about this.

I had a roasted marshmallow/ s'mores vendor for two hours .. We had allocated 2 marshmallows per person and the vendor left the rest of it on the bar when he left for the night.

We had one vegan friend, so we went and got her 2 large vegan cupcakes so she wouldn't feel left out in the desserts

I'm with Chantel, I will totally take your extras! ;-)

Anyway, I think you are right to lean more towards 100. That way, if they are a hit, there will be one for everyone. Ugh, I'm so hungry for s'mores just thinking about it!!

Lisa-- I'm not sure if you were asking from anyone, but thought I'd post these just in case. We used sterno cans inside bark-covered vases for roasting. We also had different chocolate options, and I got the little animals from another WW bride Smiley smile

We are having this! Our caterer changed his menu after we hired him so he gave it to us for free since we were supposed to get cookies and milk. He said everyone loves it, idk how much he is bringing though. I'm sure its one per person.
