How many dresses did you try on before saying "yes?"

ThatGirl, on January 7, 2018 at 12:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 125

I went dress shopping yesterday for the first time and found a dress I think may be "the one." My girls were there and we all loved it and thought it was glamorous and suited me... fairly simple lace sheath (not at all what I thought i was looking for!) - while plain it was classy, flattering, and had the chic sophisticated look I want. But we all agreed I should not order a dress on "day one." BM 1 was not satisfied with the service we got and felt like I didn't try on enough... and while I don't know if I agree with her, I do understand not jumping in too quick... a dress is a commitment...

so my question is how many dresses did you try on before saying yes? And did you "sleep on it" before taking the plunge? How did you know you found "the one?"

Thanks!!!

I felt the same way you did. I found a dress the first time I went shopping that I thought was the one but I didn’t want to settle. I’m so happy I kept looking because after two other stores I found my perfect dress! I instantly knew this was the dress for me because I didn’t question it at all. I don’t think it’s wrong to keep looking because if that was really your dress you wouldn’t have been able to leave without it.

None. I didn't try on any dresses. My husband found the Bridal salon that only makes custom dresses.

I went in one day with my mother and FMIL and made a choice then. I didn't really even expect to choose THAT day. I hope I didn't rush into it. I do love it though.

About 16 altogether. The one I tried on last is the one I bought. I didn't buy it the same day I waited two weeks, couldn't stop thinking about it so I went back and tried it on again took more pictures and videos and then said yes to the dress.

My 5th dress as the first salon. I kept looking and tried on at least 15 dresses total but went back to the 5th.

15 ..some times i even went by myself so i could figure what syles i really liked, without anyone else opinion hanging over me. The dress I said yes to, I was with my mother in a small boutique. I had almost gave up and I told the lady that I don't think I could find my dress here she said hold on I think I have something for you. I didn't even want to take it off, we bought it that day!

I tried on about 20-25 dresses between 3 places. My dress ended up being the 5th one I tried on and I thought it was the one, but I slept on it and still went to my other appointments. It was the only dress that when I put it on, I could imagine myself on my wedding day.

I found a dress I was obsessed with online, found it available to try in at one of my local boutiques. Went and tried on four others first and tried on my obsession last. I loved it and went with it! If you know you love it just go for it! No need to stress yourself out and over complicate it.

I tried on at least 40 dresses between 3 bridal salons and 5 appointments. So far I've narrowed it down to the 3rd dress I tried on and the 30th or so dress. I'm leaning towards dress three.
I say keep looking until you find the one you love.

I think I tried on around 50. I did try on "my dress" on day one, at the second shop. It was a different silhouette than I thought I wanted, so although I was very drawn to it and had an odd feeling about it, I didn't exactly realize it was the one, yet. Two days later, my dad wanted to see some of my favorites from the two shops my mom and I had visited, so we went back to both shops to see 6 dresses again, total. I still had a weird feeling g about that I dress, but I wasn't ready to say it was the one I wanted, yet, but was starting to believe it was my favorite if my favorites so far. I waited 3 months, and the next time I was in town, my mom and I visited two different shops. That dress had grown on me even more over those 3 months, and I realized I was comparing every new dress I tried on at the two new shops to that one dress. We made an appointment to go back to that shop that week so I could try on that dress and one other that I was also still thinking about. I picked it.

I needed time to feel confident in my choice (and realize I had subconsciously made a choice). I needed to see more. Not everyone does. You can make another appointment with a different shops if you'd like, but if you're still thinking about the other dress, it's probably the one for you. The key is that after you pick your dress and place the order, you shouldn't keep looking. Not because there's going to be a better dress, but because you put yourself at risk for second guessing your choice and it let's you think "what if I had picked something like this, instead" and it will confuse you.

Also, know that your opinion is the one that matters most when choosing your dress. Just because one friend thinks you should keep looking doesn't mean you actually have to. What matters is that you end up with the dress that makes you happy.

I tried on at least 10 but I bought the third one! I still can’t believe I found it so quickly, but I’m obsessed with it.

I went to 2 shops in 1 day, tried on about 5 dresses at each place. Found the one and bought it that day.

I went by myself and the third dress I tried on was perfect! I tried on around ten dresses that day and none of the others were right. I still second guess it since it wasn’t quite the style I thought I’d go with, but I still think it was the right choice. I started crying and it made me feel beautiful and emotional. Thinking I may visit one more bridal shop with some friends to get that experience, but most likely I already found my dress. Smiley smile

I went yesterday to two stores and tried on 15-20. The dress I loved was the 2nd at the 2nd store. I tried on the rest we had pulled for fun but I knew this was the one. There was another at the first store but I would have had to loose some weight for it and the one I picked suites me. As the dresses are donated to the stores and the money goes to charity, I knew I couldn't wait on it.

Mine was the 2nd dress I put on and I said yes. No need to keep looking when you fall in love with your dress. It's a waste of time.

But the first dress I tried on was a joke dress to get the ball grown dress out of everyone's mind. Not my style. So really it was the 1st real contender I tired on.

Mine was the last dress I tried on at the first bridal salon. I do regret not trying on more, mostly because it is so much fun and you only get to do it once, why not milk it a bit? Smiley tongue

I just went yesterday. I tried on a bunch of dresses but I knew when I had the right one on. I just started to cry. I tried on a few others but after each one I asked to try the other one on and cried everytime I put it on. That is when I went with the bridal shop lady went up front of the store looked in natural ligh in a mirror and made the decision that that was my dress! I had no intentions of buying my dress that day but it was love and I need 0 alterations which made the decision even better! Best of luck to all of you looking for your special princess dress!
