Mrs. Lewis
Dedicated November 2018

How many Brides out there are using your children in your bridal party, especially step children?

Mrs. Lewis, on January 28, 2017 at 5:17 AM Posted in Planning 0 52

My husband and I are getting married in November of 2018. I have a 10 year old son from a previous relationship and my husband and I have 2 children together, a 3 yr old daughter and a 6 month old son. We plan to include all 3 of our children in our wedding, Our oldest, Aiden, will be a Jr. Groomsmen (his decision), Our daughter, Lyla, will be our flower girl, and our youngest, Alex, will be our ring bearer, he will be 2 then. We want to do something to unite us all as a family, sand art has been tossed around. Any other ideas would be helpful. What are you doing to unite your family together?

FH has 2 daughters from a previous relationship they will be my Jr bridesmaids, ages 13 and 10. My oldest son (age 9) from a previous relationship will be "ring security" along with our 4 year old son (he is very shy and I know he won't walk down alone).

We have blended family necklaces for the kids I found on Amazon. We are presenting them at the ceremony only placing them on the oldest from both sides (I place one on his oldest, he places one on my oldest). After the ceremony the younger kids will receive theirs.

FH'son is a quiet teenager n doesn't want to be 'in' the wedding, so it feels pretty limiting but we are respecting that. Im looking into having a quilt made for him with wide boarders n 6 squares...1 for each year I've known him.

My ex is also getting married this year, and our son (11) will be the best man and daughter (6) will be the maid of honor for both. They are both excited. My son wants to organize a bachelor party and give a speech (!!).

We will probably also do a sand ceremony with four different colors.

My two teen boys are standing up with FH, his two teen girls will stand up with me. My boys will walk with me down the aisle as well. Both FH and I will say one thing about the kids in our vows but no unity ceremony. At the reception, FH and I will do our first dance then halfway through the song changes & we will bring all 4 kids to the dance floor with us.

I have 13 year old twins from a previous relationship. They will be almost 15 by the time FH and I get married. My son is a junior groomsman and my daughter is a junior bridesmaid. They are both excited about it. Still trying to figure out how to incorporate them into the bach parties. I'm planning on having my children give me away to FH. Idk 100% though. Haven't talked to them about it

Future step daughter, who will be 11 when we get married, will be jr bridesmaid. We are also using Unity in Glass for the ceremony rather than a candle or sand. She is picking 2 of the glass bead colors and then helping to create the bead mixture that will sculpted into art.

The sand ceremony is a good idea! I've also seen a company online where you can get glass and combine them, and then the company forges it into a sculpture. It was kinda expensive for me, but your budget may be different and that may be cooler than sand for your older kids!
