How long will your reception last?

We are doing ceremony/reception at the same venue. My ceremony will start at 6:00 and I don't expect it to last longer than ten minutes. It will be followed by four hours of open bar. When I was mentioning this to coworkers yesterday they were a little surprised that the party would end before...

My ceremony is at 2 with cocktail hour starting at 4. The reception will be over by 9. I don't really care that it ends early. It's Halloween, so the party will continue else where, I'm sure.

We have to be cleaned up and out by Midnight so we are going to be ending at 11:30 (also doing minimal decorations. The hotel we are at is close to the bars in town so we plan on just heading there after!

My venue has noise restrictions so the reception ends at 10:30. Cocktail hour should start around 4:30, then reception from 5:30-10:30!

Ceremony starts at 5 ish lol I swear people here do not have clocks. Ceremony is 3 blocks away from reception.buffet Dinner starts at 6ish (depends on when everyone gets there) and goes for 2 hours and then 4 hours of dancing. Where I am from most weddings go until 2 or so but our dj package only has 4 hours of fame music.

I have my venue for both the ceremony/reception for a total of 5 hours. Ceremony is at 6p so we will need to be done by 11p. We are doing a first look so taking time out for pictures is not an issue.

I think most weddings I've been to ended before midnight and everyone who still wanted to party just went out late. We had cocktail hour from 6-7, dinner/toasts from 7-8, traditional wedding stuff (first dances, cake cutting, bouquet toss, etc.)- 8-9, then open dancing 9-11. DH and I were just about done with it right at 11. The party ended on a high note, DH and I retired to our room exhausted, and everyone who still wanted to party went downtown or swimming in the hotel pool. lol.

Edit: timeline was wrong-guess I've been married too long. lol

What if there is no alcohol due to relgious reasons? There would be no cocktail hour. I plan on having the ceremony from 4-5 then from 5-6 I would do pictures with the family then the reception would be from 6-11. The ceremony is held at a different place than the reception but they're only a mile down the road from each other. I don't want guests to wander off after the ceremony & not come to my reception!

Ours will be from 2:00-9:30. A little long, but it's a Saturday and my family likes to party so I'm not at all concerned.

    My ceremony is at 3

No cocktail hour (pictures before ceremony)

    Reception 3:30ish-8pm

    After party at hotel bar.

You guys made me feel better about the short reception but mine is earlier. I feel weird for ending at 8 but oh well. We will still have a good time.

My ceremony is at 5, cocktail from 5:30-630. Reception starts at 6:30, dinner at 7. Reception goes until 12 and we have 6 hours open bar. My group is a heavy partying kind of group though.

Mine also was 4 hours and it was fine. At 10:00 everyone was ready to go. The "elders" went home and the young (or young at heart) went to a bar. My sister recently got married and around 10:30 everyone was ready to head home, and was fading by midnight even though it was definitely a young crowd/plenty of booze. Everyone just started hard I suppose haha.
