How long will your reception last?

We are doing ceremony/reception at the same venue. My ceremony will start at 6:00 and I don't expect it to last longer than ten minutes. It will be followed by four hours of open bar. When I was mentioning this to coworkers yesterday they were a little surprised that the party would end before...

We had a 5 hour bar package so 1 hour for cocktail hour and 4 for reception. And a 20 minute ceremony. It was more than enough. We probably had less than half the guests at the very end.

Our reception is 4 hours. We are having the ceremony and reception in the same venue and have it reserved for 5 hours total (11 am - 4 pm). We are not having a cocktail hour and the venue said they'd open the doors to the reception room a bit before 12.

My ceremony is at 1:30pm, we're anticipating being gone from the park by 5pm. Short, sweet, and fun. Outdoor ceremony, in November...Sunset starts around 4:40pm, so we want to have a little daylight to break everything down. (By we, I mean the people who are actually breaking down the sound equipment, generator, tables, etc.)

We opened the bar and served appetizers from 5-ish to 6:30, dinner was served at 7, followed by speeches and first dances, served a late night snack at 11, closed the bar at 1, and the last people left shortly before 2.

Our ceremony will be at 3:30 and mostly likely go until 4, cocktail hour will be be between 4-5 and we will have our dinner at 5:30. We have the venue pretty much until 9am the next day and the dj is for the full day. So as long as people are still having a good time we're going to stay until most have left. We're thinking well be gone by 1 or 2.

We're having the "dreaded" Catholic gap - our ceremony is at 1:00, cocktail hour is from 6-7, and then dinner/dancing/drinking from 7-2 a.m. Our group is all seasoned partiers though - we're actually considering doing an "after party" at a bar (it's an event Nuit Blanche in Toronto the night of our wedding so extended last call till 4:00 - lol but I might actually pass out of exhaustion since we've got a 7 am hair and makeup start time).

Our ceremony is at 5 and should be about a half hour, our reception starts at 6 and will last until 12. We are having an open bar that is available except for during dinner because the venue closes it down them

It sounds like you're doing the right thing by getting most of the posed photos out of the way before the reception starts. In my experience ceremonies almost always take a little longer than originally planned. But four hours is almost always long enough for a good reception party with one big unless. And that is unless the food is not ready on time. I've seen a few receptions where the food was delayed by an hour or more. If the kitchen is honest and communicates with the couple, and DJ we can move things around and make the best of it. But when they don't and it's just delayed a lot of time is wasted.

Haha @djkenstone I am pretty sure you are doing the music for my ceremony so hopefully we can get it knocked out quick and on to the party!

Yes! Kasey & Tyler I am. I think yours probably won't have much of a delay since everything & everyone will be centrally located. The last time I was there it was just a matter of making sure most of the guests had arrived.

3 hours! (Do I win for shortest?) Our 11am ceremony will last about 20 minutes (no more than 30) and the cocktail reception will immediately follow (same location). Over by 2:30! We are not planning on a dance party, by any means.
