How long were you together before getting engaged/married?

2 1/2 years for us!

We were together for 4 tears and 10 months before getting engaged and engaged 3 years and 6 months before getting married!!

FH and I were long distant friends for 11 years before we started dating. Engaged 14 months later. Would have been married 22 months after that but had to postpone due to medical issues. Will have been together almost 4 years to the day on our wedding day.

Conversely, my ex boyfriend and I were together almost 10 years. He proposed multiple times, the first one being after 5 years. And I turned him down each time because I wasn't ready to be married (I later realized I just wasn't ready to be married to him.).

4 years, 2 months.

We were together for 11-1/2 years when we got engaged, it will be 13 when we get married.

We got engaged on our 4 year anniversary, and we will be together 5 years when we get married.

Engaged after just over 5 years of dating, we will be married just over 7 years together.

We were together for 2 years before getting engaged and will be married a few weeks before hitting 3 years. It's not for others to decide what is too soon. You clearly both put a lot of consideration into getting married.

We have been together before we got engaged 7 years and now we are 2 years engaged.

We were friends for three years, dated for almost two, and were engaged 8 months. But I knew that I would marry him 6 months in, so I would say it's very individual on how long it takes to decide. My parents started dating in August, engaged in February, married the next August. That was in '87, and they're still married.

Dating for 5 years before engaged, but knew we wanted to get married after about a year. We had a 2 1/2 year engagement so we could finish undergrad and get situated. Personally I wouldn't marry someone before the 2 year point because of the "honeymoon period". You don't know how it's going to be after that until you're there.

It's different for everyone though, and also depends on age.. We probably wouldn't have waited 7 1/2 years to get married if we hadn't been 15 and 16 when we met.

We had dated for 16 months before we got engaged, will be together just 2 months shy of 3 years by the time we are married and have lived together since we got engaged.

We met and dated for about 3 years when he proposed and we will be married almost exactly 4 years after we started dating. Everyone is different.

Six years before we got engaged. By the time we are married it will be eight years together.

We had been together almost 3 years, we've been engaged a little over a year and a half and we'll be getting married on the 5 year anniversary of when we met.

That talk is nonsense because it all depends on the person. We met in May, became 'official' in July, I moved in with him in October (it was supposed to be temporary but he asked me to stay) and we're still going strong. I told my mom that August I was going to marry him, and in September I told his parents at his sister's wedding. They thought I was crazy because I had only known him 3 1/2 months but as soon as we got engaged i was like "I TOLD YOU!" to everyone who thought I was crazy.

My FH and I have been together on and off for 12 year ever since April of 2001 we have been back together June of 2013 so we have be together for a year now and he ask me to married me in July of 2014 so by time we get married we will have been together two year and our wedding date is October 24, 2015

We are getting married in 2 & 1/2 weeks, which will be 9 days after our 10yr anniversary. We started dating on New Year's Day in 2005 and he moved in with me 4 months later. We have lived together ever since. But like the others have already said, it doesn't matter how long you have been together. You 2 have been together long enough to know if you love each other and want to spend the rest of your life together. Don't let anyone else make that big of a decision for you. Been together for 7 years, it will be closer to 8 years when we (finally) get married. BUT he actually first proposed to me 5 years ago, but I felt like I was too young to marry then.

Today is our one-year anniversary and FW proposed on the 9th. It's a deeply personal thing and no one can tell you when the time is right. (We are planning a long engagement, though.)
