How long to wait to here back from a vendor?

Elizabeth, on April 6, 2011 at 2:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

I emailed a vendor about 2 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything back yet. I know wedding season is starting and I am not in a rush. Just curious how long I should wait for a reply.

Ohh....maybe the email didn't go through....or got sucked into their junk file by mistake. You should hear back within a couple days, in general...unless they are out of town in which case they should have an automatic reply set up. Email em again....and give them a call if you can....

I don't think that is very professional. I try to respond to emails within one day but I usually manage to reply within an hour.

Well I emailed them through their contact sheet on their site and then yesterday I emailed them at their email address.

I had this problem with my cake vendor. I emailed, and then emailed again 2 weeks later with no response, so I picked up the phone. I think a week is acceptable time to get back to you, but I would call if you have your heart set on this vendor.

    Ohhh....this was/is my PET PEEVE....

This was my criteria when it came to picking out/interviewing vendors.

    1) Establish contact via email/phone etc.

    2) If I do not hear from them with in 3 business days, I contact another way (phone/email)

    3) If I STILL get nothing...BYE! :-)

And....if it is a vendor that I chose and signed a contract..I expect a response within 3 business days. if nothing, still same rig and roll....phonecall. If I leave a message and nothing, I will personally visit their place of business with a big smile on my face.

Luckily, the vendors I have are prompt.....but then again I weeded out the slugs in the beginning.

One venue had the NERVE to email me 3 MONTHS after initial contact saying "do you still need a place?" uhmmm...no....

This is the Venue that I am in love with and is in my price range. I think I will give them a call tomorrow.

Elizabeth....if this is THE place you want....I would make it VERY clear that if you were to sign a contract with them, you expect PROMPT response. Do it in a very nice way....this is what i said to my vendors:

"I'm what you call an "organizational freak", so dont hold that against me. Haha. I really want to make this day a special one and a day with limited complications and miscommuniations. I know we are all very busy, but I find it very accomodating that if a query is sent to you (email/phone, etc) I would expect a response within a reasonable amount of time. Im not expecting you to spend a boat load of time answering my questions if you are pressed for time, but just drop me a line acknowledging that you received it and you will answer when you get a fleeting moment"

So far, my vendors were happy to accomodate :-)

YOU are paying these people to render you a service....dont let them rule YOU.

Jennifer O: I made a copy of that and plan to send it to her. I know for one she also has another business she runs, but she is the coordinator of the place and I do expect a quick response. All I wanted to know if the two dates I was looking at were available and how soon I can book.

I respond almost always within an hour, if I'm at a shoot or meeting with a client is the only reason it would take longer. I have email on my phone and respond to everything as soon as I get it, two weeks seems ridiculous, I would definitely call them.

Kaitlynn: my florist is my quickest response...within the hour like you! I heart her!

My second fastest is my photographer: that girl will whip up a FULL email in 4 hours flat! I think I will call her my wife...dont tell my FH. Smiley smile

My venue takes the longest...but that is less then 2 days Smiley smile She knew I meant business when I called her and said WTH after I emailed her 3 days prior? I dont mess around!

Elizabeth: Stay strong, keep to your guns and you will get what you need in a timely manner Smiley smile

I think because your wedding is more than a year away, it may take a bit more time for them to get back to you. In my experience, I had more success with the telephone. Venues tend to take longer to respond because if they are a popular one, they may get 50+ emails a day.

Jennifer O, I'm the same way. I try email first; if no response then I call. After that? Uh buh bye.
