How long does it take to get dressed?

Mrs. Grissett-Johnson, on June 18, 2013 at 2:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

I'm trying to put together a scratch "Wedding Day" itinerary just to get an idea of how long everything is going to take and to make sure we'll be able to get to the chapel on-time. In my mind 3 hours is enough time for 6 BM's to get dressed and ready, but realistically for a 11 a.m. wedding how early should the wake-up call be? And is breakfast possible? Note: Chapel is 25 minutes away from hotel and everyone will be doing their own hair and make-up.

Oh yeah, I'll be getting dressed at the chapel instead of the hotel or should I get dressed at the hotel?

It depends on how long hair and makeup will take. And how many hair stylists and make-up artists you have.

For mine it will take my lady 1 hour per BM and 1:30 for me. But it is only her.

I think the dressing itself should be fairly fast.

I'd try to get breakfast in somehow. It will be important, especially for you.

Bc our hair is simple, we're doing hair at ulta at 9 with 7 people. Should be done by 11:30 they say, then deco the tables and be dressed by 3 at reception venue and ceremony is a half mile away on same street at 3:30

It depends. Are you doing any pictures beforehand? What about a first look? My wedding was at 5. The BM's got their hair/makeup done at a salon before coming to the venue. I asked them to be to the venue by 2 because the photographers arrived at 2:30 (they all got there before 1 so we were able to hang out). My hair and makeup started at 1 and finished at 3. I was in my dress and ready to go a little before 3:30 and we did not do a first look.

I provided food/drinks/mimosas as well to make sure everyone ate.

In my mind 5 minutes is enough, but weddings are crazy animals! You have to take the professionals into consideration. It may be worth calling them. You'll also want to factor in any last minute problems (give yourself maybe 30 minutes for those) and make sure you account for before hand photos.

Thanks for the feedback ladies! I didn't even take into account photos of us getting dressed. Yikes! Then an extra 30 minutes for those "emergencies" sounds like a good idea. 2 of my girls wear locs (not the same a dread locs) the other 3 wear some form of a weave and my sister will likely do her own hair the night before.

I'm guessing we'll help each other in the make-up department. So no make-up artist needed. Other than eating, hair, make-up and photos what else could I be missing?

Figure maximum time that you think it will take -- then add 30-45 minutes more!
