How long do you have your videographer for?

Taylor , on April 6, 2018 at 9:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hi all, I need some advice.

So my videograoher package only includes 8 hours of coverage with the option to add time for $100/hr. My wedding ceremony starts at 5 with a 10:45/11 send off. I would like him to catch some of footage of me and my bridal party getting ready prior to the ceremony as well as the send off, so I’m worried that 8 hours isn’t enough. Any advice will help!

Thanks Smiley smile

Honestly, 8 hours seems like plenty! I don't see the issue?

So if I only use 8 hours, that means he won’t arrive till 3. I was thinking that’s too late for him to capture a little of the getting ready process. But I wasn’t sure.

What is your “ready by time”?

your videographer and photographer don’t really take pictures of you getting ready. They basically show up with you are almost ready to put on the dress and they take a few photos of the end of the process. Then the photograph you getting the dress on, which is mostly you re-enacting getting the dress on and then putting earrings, jewelry, veil on.

I got married 3 weeks ago, that collectively took about 15-20 minutes.

I think the photographer and videographer started shooting about 2 hours before the wedding started, which also included our first look. There ceremony was 45 minutes from the prelude to the recessional, with about 15-20 minutes between the ceremony and reception start. Then we had a 4 hour reception.

I really don’t know exactly. My timeline will be done by my DOC. I’m just worried about not having enough time. So how long did you have your photographer total? And your videographer?

The photographer didn’t charge by the hour, they were there from beginning (about 30 mins before my hair and make up were done) and left after the farewell.

the videography was for 6 hours but I think they stayed more like 7 hours. They didn’t charge me for the extra hour.

work with the DOC to determine your timeline, first. Then you can figure out when you need people to arrive and start shooting, and how long you will need them for.

Our videographer and multiple videographers that I talked with while searching for mine all said they generally only stay for a bit of guests dancing after all the speeches etc are done at the reception (like an hour or two tops). I would say have them come to see you get ready rather than for your send off. If you’re really wanting them to film the send off, I would ask them if you could pay after the fact for however long they were there past the 8 hrs

We have our videographer and photographer for 9 hours. From beginning to end. They are from two different companies. Our ceremony starts at 3:45. Cocktail/reception 4:30-10pm

    Hi Erica!

That awesome! Mine are also from different companies. My photographer is for 10 hours and I think that’s plenty. Just not sure about only 8 hours for the videographer. Thanks

Hi Taylor! I was worried about the time too, but they both offered their input and mock timelines and it looks great and sounds like everything will work out! They’re the professionals so I’m doing my best to trust their judgement! I feel that’s best for my sanity!
