How long did it REALLY take to get your dress

Misty, on January 11, 2013 at 9:21 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

I have to lose weight, and I'm waiting until March 2 to go do a big dress shopping. Before then, I'm going in Feb 16 for a trunk show hoping to find a dress I love. But the salon I called was really kind of snippy about the whole thing. I get that stuff has to be ordered, but I can't go in for the next two weeks anyway (out of town--we're gonna hit up a store in Vegas where we're going this weekend) and I have to drop 25 lbs for the wedding. It would be silly to go now when nothing will fit and it will be the wrong size anyway.

so how long did your dress REALLY take to be ready?

This is the one at the trunk show I'm hoping they'll have (so hard to find v neck dresses. Everywhere its all strapless mermaid dresses)

I ordered mine in the middle of August and it came in the middle of November (they told me it would be early December), so it took about 3 months, which I think is pretty standard

I found mine the first day I went dress shopping! I went to salons, found it at the third, went to try on more at a fourth and then went back to the third to order my dress.

So in total maybe 4-5 hours to find it! Then it came in THREE months early! It came in after 2-3 months, but it was due to come in after 6-7 months. If you order in the fall, or late summer FYI and the designer is already shipping after the holidays productions slows down a lot around December, so just keep that in mind. So I ordered mine in June, it was supposed to come in late December, and they said iit could have come in even later because of the holidays.

I ordered mine in September 2012 and it's supposed to arrive next month sometime. I think ithe delivery time depends on the bridal shop and designer.

I found mine the first day I went shopping - 2nd location. It took about 3 weeks to come in. Keep in mind, it is considered an "informal" dress, has zero beading and I got it at David's Bridal - who generally takes less time than most.

Honestly, I think you need to go now. It's great that you are going to lose weight, but you can always take a dress in. I would hate for you to fall in love with a dress that you won't get in time. :-s

Depends where you go its been 7 months and mine is still not in. They project Jan 15th but I haven't gotten a call yet. They told me 6-9 months! But if you go to Davids I know you can get it sooner.

I ordered mine at the beginning of June and they said it would not be in until mid-late September. It actually arrived mid-August.

I ordered my dress at a size 10 (I am a street size 6) bridals sizes suckkk. But I have lost some inches so once its altered it wont be a 10! You can always take a dress in but cant let it out at least not by much so dont let the weight stop you. That being said, I was told when I ordered my bridal gown (Rosa Clara collection) and my bridesmaids dresses (Alfred Angelo Collection) that production for dresses would stop for a few wks due to Chinese New Year...kinda weird. SO my timeline was dress purchased 11/26 and estimated to arrive 3/26-4/5. Bridesmaids dresses ordered 1/4 and estimated to arrive 4/5. Since your wedding is in June you may want to inquire about how backed up they will be with ordering due to delay in production and peak season. Davids Bridal would be a great option b/c they tend to keep more dresses "in stock" and it is possible you may snag a great sample gown and the trunk show then "crises averted." You can also consider expedited/rush delivery. Good luck!

They told me 6 months and it took...6 months. Salons are telling you the truth. If you order from DB or AA, it will take less time.

I bought the dress off the rack, so I can't help you with that.

But order the dress based on your current size. Dresses need to be altered anyway. And you really don't know how much weight you will lose until the wedding. It could be 25 lbs, but it could also be 4 or 36. So order it and deal with alterations later.

As of this week, if you order your dress, you are looking around the end of April 2013 for delivery with some companies, up to 24 weeks with the majority..that's 6 months on the average. You can expedite a "RUSH" delivery, however there is an extra charge for that on top of the cost of the dress. This is considered "peak" season as there are many new engagements over the holidays, and coming Valentines Day, so don't wait until the last minute!

Concerning weight loss..it can take several months to take off 25 pounds. Don't wait! Always buy your dress in the size you are now. The dress will need to be altered. You can always take the dress in, but never out. Also, all Bridal gowns need alterations, which are never free, and are always an added cost depending on the dress and the type of alterations needed. Lace-up dresses work wonderfully for a curvier figure, and you don't have to worry about zippers!!

Bridal salons do not keep every style or size to try on in stock. This is a normal expectation. They may be able to get a "sample" of the dress in your size in time for your appointment if they know in advance, but be prepared to pay for this , and costs vary.

At Davids Bridal, they quoted me 2 months and it came in 2 weeks- as far as weight loss, i was barely too big to fit the size I ordered (needed to lose like 10lbs). But I also added a corset and that gives a swing of a size in either direction. And like everyone says, if it's too big, then it can be taken in easily.

I too am wanting to lose some weight before even trying on dresses or buying one. That said, our wedding is the end of October, so my plan was to start looking seriously at the end of March...

I ordered mine in November 2012 and they told me it will take 4-6 months to come in. Not here yet but I'm finding it hard to believe it would take 6 months.

I ordered mine in August 2011 and it arrived late February of 2013, so 6 months.

From reading wedding boards, it seems to me that 5-7 months is pretty standard for a lot of boutique dresses, and 2-3 months for Davids's Bridal/Alfred Angelo dresses.

I think it just depends on where you order it from and what the designer's policy is. I ordered mine in August and it's supposed to be here next month. That's six months! I feel like I've been waiting forever. You will also want to allow time for alterations. I think my bridal salon does 3 fittings to get the fit just right.
