How important is a steak option?

Amanda, on May 18, 2016 at 8:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 54

How important is it to offer a steak option at a reception? We will be offering a chicken, fish, and veggie but my fiancé thinks we should also offer a red meat!

    As opposed to....?

I guess it depends on the other option.

I guess it depends on how many options you have. I wouldn't say it's more or less important than anything else though.

When I was catering, at almost every wedding we produced, 75% of the guests would pick the beef and 25% of the "non-beef" (chicken or fish).

It's a safe option to include. It's a popular selection that many people would select.

I don't eat chicken or fish so it would be important to me. Or a vegetarian dish.

If your fiancé wants it I would try to replace the fish with beef.

What kind of fish is it? A lot of people are really picky about fish. You would probably be "safer" off with the beef instead.

More than 50% of our guests selected the beef option (prime rib). And we're in California and have 18 who selected the vegetarian option (the other being salmon).

We don't like beef so aren't offering it! Recently went to a wedding that offered chicken, lamb, or veggie. Offer whatever you like IMO

I think steak goes over better than fish. Fish option is way too broad as people will want to know the type of fish and how it will be cooked, etc. I would do chicken, beef, and a veggie platter. We are doing chicken for dinner, but going heavy on apps with beef and crab dip included.

I love red meat and would almost always choose that option. However I would be perfectly happy eating chicken too.

FH and I are big red meat eaters. FH definitely prefers red meat to fish or chicken. However, when FH, my mom, and I went to a tasting event that my venue offered we all raved over one of the chicken options offered, raved over one of the vegetarian options, FH absolutely loved the fish and not a single one of us cared for a single one of the beef options. I always thought I'd have my options be beef, chicken, and vegetarian but we went with what actually tasted amazing so now we have chicken, fish, and vegetarian.

A caterer that I met with recommended doing steak and fish - not chicken and fish if you're only offering one.

Personally I would do the steak over the fish.

I don't think we will be choosing a beef option. But I think it depends on your trust of the finished product, some beef can be overdone. We are also not likely to pick chicken either due to the risk of dry chicken.

I think we will end up with another meat of either pork, veal + fish + vegetarian.

But if the beef dish is supposed to be good, I'm all for it as it's usually the most popular choice.

My FH always orders the steak then proceeds to try to bully me into ordering the steak so he can eat half of mine too Smiley smile I have been to weddings without though too and it was fine, FH missed it though
