How important is a steak option?

How important is it to offer a steak option at a reception? We will be offering a chicken, fish, and veggie but my fiancé thinks we should also offer a red meat!

Do a tasting with your caterer/venue before deciding. We knew we wanted a duet plate and originally planned to do a "surf and turf" of beef and a crab cake. After doing our tasting, we changed the beef to chicken Florentine because it was so delicious and the beef was just OK. The crab cake was still amazing, so we kept that, but we did also try the salmon to see if we liked it better. For our RSVP cards, we left a section for food allergies/restrictions in case anyone truly does not/cannot eat chicken or crab cakes.

ETA: If anyone is really craving beef, we do have beef teriyaki skewers at cocktail hour and will be having cheesesteaks and cheesesteak eggrolls as our late night snack. So we didn't leave it out entirely! And those other versions of beef were all much tastier than the regular dinner option.

The question is, how well does your caterer do steak? If the steak is not juicy and perfectly flavored, I'd skip it.

We are likely doing a beef and a fish (and a vegetarian) oftentimes at weddings chicken is really dry.

I think you are fine. You have chicken, fish and veggie so I think you are more than covered. Don't worry about the beef.

EDIT: At my wedding I had chicken, beef and veggie. We had mostly chicken with a few beef and a couple of veggie. Chicken is a good standard food and what most people go for.

Are you guys beef people? You should definitely taste your caterer's beef option, and bring a third party who loves red meat if you don't. I am a red meat gal and will always choose the beef option, but have been really disappointed in a few inedibly dry cuts at weddings. I would rather eat chicken than over cooked beef. (We are doing chicken, veggie and two types of beef)

Luckily, our venue is letting us pick 3-5 choices. I'm picking prime rib, chicken french, and salmon. We're a meat and potatoes crowd. I'm SURE at least 75% will get the prime rib. I'm adding a note on our invitations for anyone to let me know if they have dietary restrictions. I'm not doing a vegetarian option, because to me, it is a waste (and actually more expensive than the salmon and chicken). If someone invited to our wedding decides to go vegetarian before the wedding my venue will accommodate.

I don't like chicken or fish, so I would pick the beef (or the veggie, if beef wasn't an option)

I would choose beef, then veggie, then fish and chicken last.

Please don't insist on medium steak.

Medium steak makes me sad. I insisted on no steak cooked know than medium rare to offered. If they want it cooked more they can request it.

Thank you everyone! I decided to give in due to all of your responses, which I appreciate. And because I love my fiancé! Lol. Chicken, Ribeye, and gnocchi with Pink Vodka sauce it is!

Personally I prefer steak over fish. I think red meat would go over better than fish.

I think it depends where you live.

We got married in the Pacific Northwest and offered Tuscan Chicken and Salmon. Salmon was grilled on alder planks.

Pacific Northwest Salmon is better any day than steak.

Now we live in Kansas and I would for sure offer beef, as it's so much better than seafood here in the Midwest.

We are doing chicken, fish and Vegetarian options. My FH and I don't care for prime rib bc we are well done kind of people like a majority of my guest. The price of the other beef options sent us over budget.
