How important is a steak option?

How important is it to offer a steak option at a reception? We will be offering a chicken, fish, and veggie but my fiancé thinks we should also offer a red meat!

Boooooo. I was hoping to come on here and see "it doesn't matter!" Because I don't eat beef and was thinking a seafood/chicken duo plate at my wedding. Like a piece of chicken and a crab cake, mashed potatoes, veggie, etc. Hmm. Thanks for asking this! Helpful to see the answers

So far about 75% of our guests have chosen the filet, I don't blame them because its when one thing I needed to have!

I would swap out the fish for beef. I think a very small percentage of your guests would choose fish over chicken or beef.

Steak was not optional. We at a minimum were going to have a steak and a vegetarian options. Everything else is whatever.

I was going to say "I think everyone eats chicken" .... But I guess I'm wrong! Maybe skip the fish and do chicken, beef, and veggie?

I 100% of the time will pick beef. If it isn't available, I have no choice but to pick whatever they have.

I'm not. We are offering chicken, salmon, and a veggie risotto.

I think you're fine. I doubt I'm alone in saying that, even though I enjoy a good steak, I'm not likely to choose the beef option because making a good steak in wedding-sized quantities often leads to a very disgusting slice of meat on my plate.

Besides, guests will pick what is offered to them, and most won't complain. I would swap out fish for steak, though. One red meat, one lighter meat, one vegetarian.

I love beef, so I always pick that option. But if I'm going to a wedding that only offers chicken or fish, then I'll gladly eat either one.

I think you should include a beef option over the fish. If you can only choose 3 entrees I'd go with beef, chicken and veggie option. Most people don't choose fish unless it's salmon or halibut ( hopefully Alaskan).

If you can do more than 3, great! Do beef, chicken, fish and veggies! ( note, I didn't read all the other posts so I'm just going by your first question .

    ETA. Hit send too soon.

@Caitlin vegetarian and fish are not interchangeable. Especially for vegetarians...

I feel your pain! I'm definitely doing prime rib but I'm having trouble deciding fish or chicken as my other option

The problem with steak is that everyone likes it at different levels of doneness. Too rare? People won't eat it. Too done? People won't eat it. Stress to the caterer that the steak needs to be cooked to medium.

We felt strongly about a beef option (we had hand carved beef at our reception). We also had chicken picatta and 2 non-meat pasta choices. I would swap your fish for beef.

70% of our guests picked the steak option. We have chicken, fish and a vegetarian as well.

We are doing filet, sea bass and vegan mushroom ravioli. Chicken was among our options but we ultimately did fish because 1) it was way better and 2) it seemed more upscale than the chicken option. I don't think a steak is required, but I know from experience it's a popular option!

Man, I was going to say it wasn't that important but these responses are really interesting!! Are there more married ladies and gents (or vendors!) who can share about how many of their guests picked the red meat option?
