How far out do you book your officiant?

LauraM, on May 25, 2016 at 7:00 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 29

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'm on mobile so I can't search. How far in advance do you book your officiant? It's something I haven't thought about yet! Neither I nor FH are very religious so do where do we even look for one? I haven't been close to anyone that's been married recently to ask. Help!

You are at about 9 months out...I was having trouble finding one at that point...use the vendor tab in here it gives you local people then start emailing for availability and prices.

Thank you @mrsC. I used the vendor tab, but I'm from a fairly small area so it doesn't give me many options close by.

This is a vendor you can book as early as possible. You can try WW. Maybe some users here can give you some suggestions. Our officiant (FH's childhood pastor) we literally asked 3 days after getting engaged, when we saw him in person. Then before booking a date we made sure it worked for him.

We booked ours in March (we were at the year and a half mark) as she was already booking weddings for 2017, especially September

8 months. I'm getting married in Oct in the smoky mountains. Officiants get booked fairly quickly compared to other times of the year.

I asked my venue if they have any recommendations as a start. Turns out they have a preferred list. You could also ask other vendors if they have recommendations.

It's best to book officiants shortly after you have your venue booked. This also goes for any other vendors who will have to actually be present during the event (DJs/bands, photographers, videographers, etc). Reason being, we can only be in one place at a time. Your baker can serve 10 weddings on your wedding day. My personal max is 3 weddings if the ceremony times align. You don't want to research and find the perfect officiant for your wedding, and then learn that they're not available because that time slot was booked months ago by someone else. Also remember that the types of vendors I've mentioned are the ones who provide unique personal talents that can make or break your experience. And that an officiant is the one requirement to have a wedding ceremony. Everything else is just a party.

Use the vendor section to search for officiants in your area. When you reach out to them just let them know that you want a non religious ceremony.

I'd say do it as soon as you can. In my area (NY/NJ) our venues offer value pricing for January through March (Yippee!!!!!). So we are booking earlier than ever (like, I'm booking 2018 already.....)

The great thing about us? You can book us and forget about us until about three months ahead, lol!

I found my officiant thanks to WW. We booked her back in March for our August 2017 wedding. She was already pretty booked for summer 2017 already.

My wedding is 18 months away and I am interviewing officiants right now. Plan to have one booked in June.
