How far out do you book your officiant?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'm on mobile so I can't search. How far in advance do you book your officiant? It's something I haven't thought about yet! Neither I nor FH are very religious so do where do we even look for one? I haven't been close to anyone that's been married recently to...

Apparently ASAP. I never knew and I started looking, one is already booked on my 10/7/2017 date!

I would definitely book as early in advance as you can. Also, if you are not very religious, any person who is a notary can marry you I believe. You can even go online and complete the process from what I have been told. So a friend or family member may even be able to do the job. This also might vary by state though.

We booked ours around 9 months ahead of the wedding. I wasn't impressed by any of the ones I had seen on WW or the Knot. It turns out our officiant started doing weddings about a year ago (she's also a hospice nurse) and did not have a significant web presence yet... which is why she popped up on ThumbTack. I know that some posters on here don't like TT, but our officiant is awesome. Her rates were consistent with our expectations and we have had a wonderful experience so far. Wishing you the best of luck!

We booked just after we set a date (just shy of 6 months before our wedding date). Glad the officiant that I liked the best (based on reviews and venue recommendation) was available!

This is the most important person besides the bride and groom. I would think it would be foremost once you have a venue. I would get a movin'

Our officiant was one of the first things we booked after we got our venue and a concrete date. over a year out.

Brittany, Florida is one of only 3-4 states that allow Notaries to officiate weddings. But, some states allow Justices of the Peace to officiate.

Not all Florida counties allow you to prefill the marriage license application online. Even if you can, you still both must show up to sign and swear!

We secured our officiant the day we booked our venue. But our whole engagement will only be six months.
