How far out did you do your hair and makeup trial?

MrsMark, on February 28, 2014 at 9:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 23

Hi, ladies! How far out from your wedding did you do your hair and makeup trials? I'm trying to plan mine around our engagement party so my hair and makeup will be done for the party, but I don't know if 9 months out is too soon especially for hair.... as I might end up changing my mind.

Thanks Smiley smile

    My wedding date is 3.14.14

I had my makeup trial on 2.22 (rescheduled from 2.15 due to weather)

I had my hair trial on 2.26

I think 9 months out is too soon. The MUA and hairstylist I used recommended doing the trials about a month before.

I'm wondering the same thing. I think I'll wait because I'm 9 months out too.

My aunt got me a free session of makeup at a silent auction. I am planning on doing it within the next month because the website kind of has me worried about how well it will turn out so I feel I will need time to find someone else if it doesn't turn out to well.

I should note I want to do mine further out because I want enough time to find another hair stylist or makeup artist if I don't like the trials. Our date is popular and there aren't a lot of available artists

My trial was in January before I booked my MUA/hair person. My wedding is in September. She told me I can do a second trial before the wedding if I want to.

A lot good good artists book up fast. If you don't have a trial you're waiting until last minute to find an artist who might be booked

I just spoke to my hairdresser this week, and she recommended the hair trial be around 3 - 4 weeks before the wedding date so that she would be less likely to forget details of what she did (I want a low updo). I have also worked out a schedule for my highlights--she said a week before the wedding is optimal.

I haven't figured out a makeup artist yet (there's one not too far from the hair salon that my photographer recommended), but I may not have the requisite number of girls who want makeup done. They say they require 3 girls, but so far it's me & maybe my MOH. Anyone else facing minimums?? I'm hoping they'll fit me in since I can come to them & they won't have to travel. As one of the posters says above, if the MUA isn't recommended, I guess you might need to test them out before booking/hiring. Then would you need another trial closer to the date??

I had my MUA trial in the beginning of September for my April 26 wedding, they book up crazy fast so I was really happy to get her. As for my hair, I had planned on using my regular hair dresser & had a trial on Valentines day & it was terrible, absolutely awful. So I had to search for a new one, and I went for a new hair trial today with a different girl, it went great. She is coming to us and requires a minimum of 3 people. I don't think if I were going to her she'd have a # of people requirement.

I'm having mine tomorrow, my wedding is in 4 weeks. For $120 (for a trial) she better be bathing my face in gold and while magical fairies massage my feet! lol I'll post pics...

I am an MUA I suggest at least two months out that way if you are un happy you can find someone else, but be careful if you will tan over that time, and your foundation airbrush or traditional might change, any decent MUA will be able to change it day of, and should have a range of product on hand

Many blessings on your big day

I had my hair and makeup trial 8 months out, and thank goodness I did, because I did not like the results! Luckily, I found out that my usual hair salon does on-site hair and makeup services and were still available on my date (which is peak wedding season in CO). I had a wonderful trial run with them and felt very relieved because I know I'll be in good hands on the big day.

The point is, I definitely recommend that you do it sooner rather than later so you can make sure you are happy with the service you are getting, and if not, you'll have plenty of time to find someone else. In my opinion, it's not worth stressing over it a couple weeks (or days!) before your wedding because you didn't schedule your trial until then and you end up hating it. Knowing that your wedding day look will be what you want is very stress-relieving, so why not get it taken care of as soon as possible?! Smiley smile

Mine is scheduled for 2 months out. I wanted to do it for my bridal shower so I can actually wear it and see how it holds up all day.

Mine is this Saturday (3/8) and my wedding is 4/26, so like 6 weeks.

I'd say definitely wait till closer to the wedding.

I did mine at 14 months out. My hair and makeup artists are popular and get booked up pretty quickly, so I wanted to make sure I got them locked in right away.

Mine is next week for hair and that's a little less than 7 months out. I'm pretty sure I'm going with this stylist, but I'm more concerned about my hair so I'm going to do this trial early and hope she's awesome and I can book her, ha. I don't want to spend money on all these trials!
