How far is the rehearsal dinner from church or ceremony location

bina1015, on August 26, 2015 at 11:07 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

I'm still having a hard time on deciding on where to host the rehearsal dinner at. I was trying to keep it close to our church but not liking the restaurants in the area. I'm thinking of looking at restaurants that are about 20 mins away. Do you think that's too far?

We haven't settled in 100% yet, (FHs family is handling it) but we are either getting something catered, or going to a restaurant 10 minutes away. Are your guests traveling far to come to the rehearsal? 20 minutes isn't that serious, but if your party is traveling all over the place, I'd try to cut it back.

Our rehearsal dinner is about 25 minutes from the actual venue. We wanted to come back to our hometown area because that is where 90% of the BP will be staying. We didn't want people to have to drive 25 minutes after drinking at the rehearsal dinner to go home to bed.

I don't think so. We're in the same boat as the closest town doesn't have any good restaurants. With the way ours is looking, we will likely be about 30 minutes away. But, it will be in the direction that people need to go to get home for the night.

Our restaurant was about 15 minutes away from the venue. But both were right off the highway so it was very easy to get from one to the other. I don't think 20 minutes is too far.

20 minutes isn't too bad. Over a half hour, it starts to be a bit much for a RD. Ours was about 10-15 minutes away- same town, opposite sides of town.

Ours is 45 minutes, in Friday afternoon traffic. I was so mad that they picked a location THAT FAR, but oh well, it's the FFIL's deal, not mine. If I had the option, i would have picked 15 minutes max.

More than half will be traveling an hour from Chicago. That's why I was a little worried. They will travel that regardless because our church is one hour from the southside.

5 minutes! Or even less if the lights are all green. I think 20 minutes is ok (including traffic)

I would say 30 minutes is the max point you want to be at (Im at a 35 minute drive).

Stretching your drive time is okay as long as you leave time for driving to the reception for dinner/drinks (if you have a family like mine some stops along the way).

    good luck

p.s. if it is a long way or complicated drive be sure to give directions that are easy to follow the guest that are unfamiliar with the area.

If we have rehearsal at FIL's house it'll be about 25 miles.

I think 20 minutes is fine. I wouldn't feel put out at all. Start pushing 30 and I might grumble a little, but 20 is reasonable.

Mine is 10 feet away, haha. We rented a cottage in the park where our wedding is. We can't access the venue because of another wedding so we're doing rehearsal at the cottage instead. FMIL will be making a big Lebanese spread inside while we're going through rehearsal.

Ours is one block. Literally, we (FOG/MOG) live adjacent to the country club. Doing the rehearsal dinner (catered bbq) at our home.

Mine is just down the block. We are walking! The wedding is at a little garden and funky venue space in the city and the RD is down the street at a pub. I originally wanted to planned on a different idea but when my FILs insisted we had to have it at a restaurant I picked one of my favorite pubs and it worked great because after we spend part of the day setting up the venue and then have the rehearsal we can just walk down the street! If there wasn't any place nearby that I liked I would have gone elsewhere but it was a huge bonus that is was close so that we have as much time as possible for other things and get home as early as possible that night.

I don't think 20 min is too far - but also consider where the guests will be going after that. Like is the RD 20 minutes from the site but then a 40 minute drive back to the hotel where most of them are staying? Just something to consider
