How early did you start make up?

Hey guys! My HMUA sent me the schedule and she has us starting at 9 for 1BM, 2 Moms and myself for us to be done at 3. FMIL is worried because we were going to use the morning to set up the reception. She really is looking forward to helping but her make up starts at 9. And we start Set up at 9:30. She’ll probably switch with my mother but am I worried about how the make up will hold up with her moving around. What did you guys do?

That seems early. We started at 7am because we needed 14 people to get their hair and makeup done by 130pm. The makeup should hold up though. Maybe ask if they can bring an extra person so you don’t have to start so early? I’ve never heard of hair and makeup taking 6 hours for 4 people.

My wedding is at 4:30, but I am doing a first look with my dad and then photos with my bridesmaids before the ceremony. My fiance and I are not doing a first look. Our photographer said my bridesmaids and I should be done by 2 PM. In order to get all of the photos I want, we are starting at 9 AM for 8 people (me, 2 bridesmaids, 1 groomswoman, 1 mother, 1 grandmother, and 2 flower girls) for hair and 5 people (me, 1 bridesmaid, 1 mother, and 2 flower girls) for makeup.

This is super helpful - our wedding is also at 4:30 and I have a similar amount of people for hair and makeup and same plan for pictures; I’ve been unclear as to when things should start and when to have folks arrive to get ready so this is great, thanks for sharing!

I am having 1 hair stylist and 1 makeup artist and possibly an assistant.

My hair & makeup estimated 45 minutes per service for bridesmaids & moms, and an hour per service for me. So 6 hours seems pretty typical. I hired extra stylists so we didn't have to be there all day.

I've seen some makeup packages that include a "touch up kit" where they provide you with some basic supplies to fix your makeup later. Maybe ask your HMUA if they can do this or ask what color/product they are using for things like lips and powder so you can have your own for backup?
