How early are you requiring Rsvps?

Kelly, on August 1, 2022 at 1:06 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 18

I'm requiring mine 6 weeks in advance. This will give the caterer time to locally source food and for me to prepare last minute details, like place cards (which will be hand painted). STDs are going out a year in advance. I know my RSVP date is earlier than guidance on here, but almost everyone on my list is travelling. How early or late is your RSVP date?

We asked for everyone to reply by around 4 weeks in advance, and we built in some extra time for us to reach out to anyone who we hadn't heard back from by the deadline, just in case.

Our RSVP deadline is 4 weeks out and I’m seriously regretting not setting it at 6 weeks! Our caterer changed the final headcount and final payment date from 2 weeks to 6 weeks (due to availability issues with food) and now we have no buffer. So basically I’m going to have to send out reminders the week or 2 before RSVPs are even due in hopes of getting everyone’s reply in time 😫

We're setting ours VERY early- like 3 months early so that way we can take our time getting in touch with others and not have to do it during the holiday season. We'll likely follow up with some that may not have planned ahead though to make sure they'll still be making the trek.

Our deadline was 4 weeks out, the caterers only needed our numbers by 2 weeks out, so 4 weeks gave us plenty of time to collect late rsvps and finish up last minute details like seating chart & place cards

Our deadline is 5 weeks out. We have to give final numbers at 3 weeks for most of our vendors, so with our busy work schedules, we wanted some extra time to get those late rsvps.

Our deadline is today exactly one month prior to the wedding.

I'm still waiting on 17 RSVP's but giving everyone till the end of the week to account for any delays with USPS.

I originally did it one month before because I thought I was going to have to make a physical seating chart, but my venue just told me all I need is an excel sheet and they don't need it till one week before the wedding which is 100 times easier so I'm giving these 17 people a little more time before I start bugging them.

Ours is 5 weeks in advance. Our venue/caterer asked for final headcount 3 weeks before our wedding date.

The deadline should be about 1-2 weeks before the caterer needs the final headcount. If it's too early, people have found they received a lot of late or non-responses or "maybes".

Ours is about 3 and a half weeks out, and it falls on a Thursday. We set it that day because it's when our hotel block closes. We'll probably start hounding people the following Monday. We have to have the final headcount in 10 days out, so that gives us about a week and a half to get responses.

We are requiring them at the standard 4 weeks before the wedding, which allows a week of buffer time before the caterer needs the final headcount to track down anyone who forgot to reply. And don’t hang up before getting a yes or no. We are also not requiring or accepting replies before 4 weeks because no one can commit to anything before that time.

I've seen you say that before about commitment. In my circle, we plan months in advance, even if it's just dinner. No one on my list will have trouble committing at six weeks. In fact, we're sending save the dates a year in advance to ensure people have adequate time to prepare.

I understand the guidance, but everyone will have to travel. They'll have had to commit by six weeks anyway.

Smart. I imagine a lot of people would forget to RSVP during the holidays.

Fair enough. Of course, there's room for common sense and knowing your crowd.

Yeah I hadn't thought of that plus my mom reminded me that people will need to book hotels and flights so earlier is better in our circles apparently

I’m requiring mine by August 1st. This way I can make sure all final details can be accounted for and tweaked beforehand. My florist needs confirmation 6 weeks before ordering the flowers as to avoid any hiccups on her end.
