How do you list half hour time on invitation?

jcdb, on January 19, 2018 at 3:54 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
So I have a couple months to figure it out for sure but I was just starting to look at invitations and had a thought:
whats the best way to write out “4:30pm” as the ceremony time.
Its going to be a short and sweet ceremony before a 5 pm cocktail hour. I don’t want to just write “four o’clock” because then the early birds will be waiting like 45 minutes for the ceremony to start.
So what would I write: “half past four o’clock” “four thirty in the afternoon” etc.

all the samples I have ever seen all are on the full hour so I’m at a loss of what is proper and sounds the best.

I had "half past four o'clock in the evening" on my invitation. You can do either evening or afternoon, our wedding was definitely more of an evening vibe so we went with that.

The Emily Post says to use half after rather than half past or four-thirty on the wedding invitation. I think half past sounds okay though.

    12:00 p.m. is noon.

    12:01 p.m. – 5:59 p.m. is afternoon.

    6:00 p.m.- 11:59 p.m. is evening.

    12:00 a.m. is midnight

Good to know if anyone gets married at 3am!
