How do you know?

Lynne, on January 18, 2022 at 10:17 PM Posted in Community Conversations 2 11
Sorry for so many posts about a dress, but this is I hope a fairly simple question.

How do you know your dress is THE one?
I am only having second thoughts because if price. I've looked at others online and I keep comparing them to the dress that almost made me cry. I am trying hard to ignore that one but I can't get it out of my head.

Are you within a year of your date? There are many past posts where brides purchased multiple dresses 2-3 years before the wedding and weren’t able to recoup their money because they didn’t wait and so they had dress regrets, usually from buying the first one they try on. Wait until 10 months before the wedding to shop. You will know it’s the dress for you when you don’t want to take it off.

Make sure you are able to move easily in the dress because you only have one wedding day so wear it as long as you can considering the cost.

My wedding is in 6.5 months. I've put this dress on twice. My FH found out that the store has layaway program, we put down 25% and then have 2 months to pay it off. The dress is very comfortable to move it. Out of all the dresses I've tried I felt the best in it.

Sounds like you found the one. The minute you compare everything else to that one your heart has decided.

In that case, stop looking at other dresses

I think the only thing telling me no is my mind because of the price tag. But FH says it can be done.

I think it is super normal to compare your dress to other dresses, even after buying it. I had my dress custom made and I absolutely LOVE it, but I still se dresses online in different styles and love those too! At the end of the day, it sounds like price is the only thing holding you back. If FH says it will work, then go for it! You obviously love it and feel good about it and that's the important part!

I knew my dress was the one because it was comfy and looked amazing on me and all my bridesmaids said when I walked up and they saw the look on my face they could tell I loved it !

I knew it was the one because my body reacted to it before my brain could form a logical reason for loving it. Before I went shopping, I thought I would look at myself in the mirror, see how nice I looked, think about walking down the aisle to my partner, and all of those thoughts would make me emotional. But no.

I saw them shake out the train in the mirror and my breath just caught of its own accord and I got all teary-eyed.

In fact, there are several elements which were NOT want I wanted in a dress, and so I didn't buy it straight away, but no dress really compared to that one, and I knew no other dress would make me feel like that, so I went back and bought it.

It's like my partner. He's not perfect, but he's perfect for me. So whilst there are one or two little things I'd change, given the chance to create you know - the absolutely perfect spouse, I know the way he makes me feel makes dealing with those little things worthwhile.

When I first started looking I kept saying "I don't want a ball gown because every time I hear ball gown, I think Disney princess. " So, I tried on the tea length that I thought I wanted and absolutely did not like them. I tried on a hi-low didn't care for that either. I tried a semi form fitting dress, definitely don't like that because it showed my problem areas. At my last appointment I told my consultant about what I thought I wanted and said I'd try a ball gown just to see if I don't like them. First was definitely not it, I did not like the way I looked. Second had the texture & look of crepe paper, didn't like it. Third was beautiful almost made me cry, but I stopped because of price. Fourth was pretty but skirt part was plain. I tried a fifth but didn't like it & never came out of the dressing room. I put the third one back on, I had a tiny group with me but when I put that dress back on, it was like they weren't there
