How do you know how many people attended your wedding?

Mrs., on May 17, 2019 at 7:55 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15

This may be a stupid question, but I'm wondering how people keep track of the number of guests that attended the wedding? I see some posts say "x amount of people confirmed, but y number of people showed up." Does someone actually count the number of guests on the day of?

That number probably comes from the first book, or maybe the number of favors leftover.

I know because I know how many people RSVP'd and who didn't show up. We had a smallish guest list so it was easy to see Uncle Dave wasn't there with Aunt Susie or step sister showed up without her boyfriend. 🙄

I've always wondered this as well. I couldn't keep track of how many people were actually at my wedding! I just know I was surprised at the amount of people who RSVP'd yes and didn't show but I didn't actually count.

I created a spreadsheet on Google sheets with all of our guest's information, RSVP, meal selection, gift (if one was given), and if a thank you was sent.
With the RSVP info, I am able to track how many guests are attending versus how many were invited. I also put in a formula to track the percentage.

The OP means people who RSVP’d yes but didn’t actually show up on the day.
I think it’ll be fairly easy for us to know since at this point we are looking at a max of 60 guests, but with 100 or more I have no idea- maybe the left behind escort cards?

I guess this would depend on the size of your guest list, but most couples we’ve attended weddings for have done table visits. I’d think it would be pretty easy during those to notice if people were missing.

Yeah, my sister-in-law grabbed the escort cards at the end of her wedding to see who was a no-show and keep track of if they called with a reason or to apologize for not being able to make it lol

If you make escort cards, you can tell who doesn't show by who's names are left on the table. That's not fool proof, but it's a start. I will have about 70 people so it will be easier for me to tell who doesn't show.

We knew from the gifts/envelopes and who we saw. We met every guest who was there right after our ceremony for lunch. 200 rsvpd but 180 came.

We had 100 guests including my husband and myself. We got confirmation from all 98 guests they were coming and didn't have seating arrangements. Since we personally knew everybody that was at our wedding we knew only 1 person didn't show, I went back in my Google spreadsheet to double check later. So, we used our memory.
Otherwise if you have a day of coordinator or family member you can have them count.
