How do I alphabetize my guest list?!?!

Krista, on March 19, 2012 at 6:25 PM Posted in Planning 9 15

Okay, so my fiance and I finished our guest list, finally! The only problem is it's written on paper AND it's not alphabetized....AND it's DRIVING ME CRAZY! Is there any kind of program (like an address book) that will alphabetize our guest list and that we can also add the addresses into? Thanks for your help!

I used wedding wire for all my guest list management -- go to My Wedding (at the top of the page) then Guests and from there you can add households with addresses and guests within the household. It will alphebetize by household automatically I believe.

I'm taking full advantage of maintaining our guest list via the WW site. It's great for managing every aspect that involves the guests. Used in conduction with Excel, it's wonderful. Was able to do save the dates, shower invites, and wedding invitations (even with an "outside envelope" address). I intend to use it to track for thank yous as well.

I'd recommend Excel. We prepare lots of complicated guest lists for our customers, using Excel. Since what you need is so simple, I'll try to explain how you can do it. In the very first cell, type the last name, first name (ex. Smith, John). Then go down one cell (hit Enter or use the down arrow on your keyboard) and type the second name in the same format (ex. Allen, Cora). You can continue doing this for everyone on your list, in any order that you want. When you're done, click the icon near the top of the page with a letters A and Z. It will automatically sort your list for you in alpha order. Be sure to save often! There are some basic tutorials in Excel (or you can ask a friend). You'll be thrilled by the results.

If you enter all of your guests into the Guest tool on WW, you can export the list to excel and it'll automatically be in alphabetical order Smiley smile

Thanks ladies! Turns out I don't even HAVE Excel on this silly computer so I just entered it into WW. I entered them into the "overview" and now I can't figure out how to get them all over to the ceremony/reception as well?! I am terrible with computers! Well, anything involving technology, really! LOL! How do I enter in how many are attending (like family that I already know is coming for sure) or do I have to set up our own wedding site to do that through? So confusing! Smiley winking

Go to (my wedding) ..... Then click (guest) ..... Then click ( add household).

You would add the last name of that family along with their address etc. then on the right click (add guest). This will allow you to add the family members that are in that household/ address.

This is time consuming, but if you do it right the first time it will save you a tone of stress.

Taken from WW Support article, "How do I sort my Guest List alphabetically?" :

"To sort your Guest List alphabetically, you may simply click the header name (ex. "First Name" or "Last Name") when viewing by Guest. To sort alphabetically when viewing your Guest List by party, just click the small arrow next to the party name."

I'm using the WW list & I have a google spreadsheet going. The WW list manager is good for RSVP's and the seating chart. Guests can also RSVP through my wedding website since they're all loaded in.

The spreadsheet is great for my sanity. I have columns for all the information. name, address, rsvp for wedding, rehearsal dinner, if they need a hotel/shuttle, and if we received a gift. Using the google documents is great because I can access it from any computer. FH can access it too which is great!

    Hi Christina,

I used WW to manage my guest list from the beginning. It's great, all my guest logged into my website found their names, selected their meals and RSVP for all my wedding events they were assigned to.. However, The problem I have is my list is organized by group (i.e. Wedding Party, Bride Family, Groom Family, etc..). I don't see how I can get one long list and then Alphabetize that list without exporting to Excel.

    Please advise.

    Shay

If you don't have Excel, you can use Google Sheets. Google Sheets/Excel would probably be more useful the WW since you can add all the columns you want to track (such as gift/thank you tracking) that aren't incorporated into WW.

If I have two people who are not married but are together, how do I add their name to the guest seating chart? for example ..

"Mr. Tom Smith & Mrs. Ally glam" Do i put this name under G OR S?
