How did you get engaged?

How did everyone get engaged? Were you surprised or did you know it was coming?

My fiance planned and booked a trip to Miami for our anniversary/my birthday last year [10/6&10/9]. He booked us a reservation at Stripsteak ( a REALLY nice steakhouse) and said that he wanted to exchange our gifts after dinner. After we ate dinner, the waiter brought out dessert "on the house" because we were celebrating our anniversary. After dessert my fiance got up and said he had to go to the bathroom (turns out he did this because he was nervous lol). When he got back to the table I turned to grab the bag with his gift and when I turned around he was on one knee with the ring in his hand and asked me to marry him. Obviously I said yes. Once I responded, the entire restaurant started clapping and cheering for us. It was soooo cute and I was caught off guard.

Sidenote: My fiance doesn't like attention AT ALL so I was really surprised he did it in the restaurant. It completely caught me off guard.

So October 6th will be our date all around. We started dating 10/6/16, got engaged 10/6/19, and have decided to legally get married 10/6/2020

Here are some pictures from that night. I would love to hear/see everyone else's!!

    Aw cute proposal Smiley smile

I’ve shared my story several times on here:
I had a feeling my husband was gonna propose but didn’t know when exactly - til he said he randomly got us some tickets to a garden on Sunday. That felt like a stereotypical place to propose right? So it’s Friday night of that weekend and we are just in. I go take a shower and he says “take your time in the shower” I didn’t think much of it. So I come back in the room and start painting my nails and he’s telling me to come look out the window. I say eh later or in a minute, I’m busy painting nails. And he keeps pushing me like no no cmon will you just come look omg. Finally I come look and in candles and rose petals in the back yard he has spelled “I love you, marry me?” And he’s down on his knee proposing and I say “yes but I wish you would have waited til I had pants on” — I didn’t have any pants on. We laughed and he handed me a pair of pants aha .

Aww Great story and great pics!

It was Memorial Day weekend last year and my FH's son (9 at the time) was spending the weekend with us. We were going to go hiking in the mountains on Memorial day but we woke up late and I was a little grumpy over that and said no to driving to the mountains for hiking, so we decided to do some local trails. We were walking on one and my future step son came up with this little black velvet bag and said, "look what I found" - (back story... he's a true boy and always finds creepy crawlys and loves to share) and I hesitantly touched the bag and I said, "Is there a bug in here or something" and he replied No. I started to feel the bag and the object and realized it was a ring of sorts (Still clueless.... )... I open the bag and see a diamond ring (Same clueless notion, thinking someone lost this.... how do we post a "found" ring). I look up and take the ring out and my FSS looks at me and says. "Will you be my step mom?" and tears in my eyes, confused, happy, shocked...I turn around and see my FH down on one knee to saw, "Will you marry me and make us a family" - How could I say no to any of that...

    Best Memorial Day EVER!

    How sweet!

I was waiting for my FH to propose. We went to the restaurant we had our first date at the day after our anniversary. We sat at the same table and everything. He ordered me wine and we got dessert. (We never do) I was on the edge of my seat the whole dinner. Then we left the restaurant and I was a little disappointed. He started driving home then he said lets drive by the park and look at the lake. We had our second date at this park, I was feeling excited again. But we looked at the lake and started driving home. He missed our street and said opps I must be on auto pilot. Then I told him really thought he was going to propose. He said he still could not afford a ring. At this point I lost hope. By this time we were just down the road from our apartment. I noticed the sunset and said wow what a beautiful sunset tonight and he pulled over and said well lets go look at it. (little did I know he was going to stop right there all along I just accidentally made it really easy lol) We stopped at a local bnb's dock. He had decorated it earlier that day. We started walking down the dock and I somehow did not figure it out. I said "wow they really have this dock decorated like this all the time? Wow look there are flowers down their too, are we ruining someone else's surprise?". ( He lined the dock with candles and flower peddles and had my favorite flowers waiting at the end of the doc.) Then he started playing our song and asked me to dance. Then I saw someone taking photos and then i realized IT'S HAPPENING! We danced to the full song then he got down on one knee and pulled the ring out of his shirt pocket. (I checked his pants pockets earlier lol) He could barely say my name because he was crying and so was I, but he managed to get the words will you marry me out and I said yes of course!

Super cute. I was surprised for sure but had a small hint it was coming. Just didn't know when. We were on a cruise with FH's parents in celebration of out college graduation. It was captain's night so we were dressed up. We went to the top deck for photos after dinner and that's when he got down on one knee.

    What a great proposal story!

Here's mine: We live in a different state than my family and I occasionally go home for events/holidays. If I go alone, I fly, if we go together we drive and bring the dog. So, I planned on flying to San Diego by myself to watch my niece's softball games but FH said he wanted to go. Okay, no big deal, no red flags since he's come along nearly every time even if it was just a quick turnaround weekend. I'm not particularly close with his parents so when we were leaving I thought it was weird that his mother hugged me. Didn't really raise any flags, just thought she was being nice. We drove from Las Vegas to San Diego like we normally do.

We do all the normal things. The day of my niece's softball game, we were getting ready to leave and FH grabs his big heavy jean jacket, I remember being like what's wrong with you it's going to be hot! He's like whatever I'm bringing it. We get to the field - mind you this field holds a special place in my heart, I played softball my entire life, and this was my childhood field, my home away from home - he says let's go take a picture by the stairs (everyone knows the stairs back home, longgg staircase, kind of ionic, you knew where you were) I said no, the game already started let's go. So we get up to the field and walk over to the smaller field since my niece was so young, they played on the little field behind the bigger field I played on growing up. Partway through the game, he says let's go take a picture.

He asked my brother to take the photo with him on the other field. We go over to shortstop (where I used to play) and got down on one knee. I was very surprised and had no clue! My entire family was there - including our dog! My brother-in-law had his camera out because he was taking pictures of his daughter playing. He was able to snap a photo of the moment. The only person who knew was my dad since FH asked him for permission when we got in town.

    It was perfect!Smiley heart

He definitely is... we were both raised Catholic and while we're struggling personally with the religion, our overall core values still remain as a Christian couple. (If that makes any sense).

Everybody's proposal stories are so cute I'm over here tearing up!!! Smiley smile Smiley heart Here's mine... It was our 7 year anniversary and we went out to dinner. I am so indecisive so I was trying to make my mind up about where I wanted to eat, not realizing he was trying to plan it near the ocean/pier. My best friend was texting me and helping me decide, and low & behold, they were texting the entire time to make sure the plans were working! So after dinner, we took a walk on the pier, and he said he wanted to keep walking on this other path that lines the beach (immediately I knew something was up), we end up walking underneath the pier, where I find my best friend, mom, sister and grandpa there, with rose petals laid out in a heart, candles, flowers - and he got down on one knee and proposed! I was bawling. I always wanted my family there so I was super happy he made that happen! I had no idea my best friend was in on it too lol

I apologize for the length of this, but the story of my proposal is a doozy. Buckle up!

FH and I booked a weekend trip to Gatlinburg, TN November 9-11, 2018 to stay in a cabin because fall foliage was supposed to be peak in that area at that time and we love fall. The drive there was a very gloomy and misty kind of rainy day. About 2 hours into our 5 hour drive, we somehow avoided being part of an awful car accident (which I still can’t believe especially since I was grabbing FH’s hand and he was able to avoid being part of the wreckage with his one free hand). I called 911 and we got off the next exit and found that the car was completely unscathed. Needless to say, we were pretty shaken up after that. By the time we arrived to our cabin, it was dark out. We get in the cabin and I go to put the groceries we picked up for the weekend in the refrigerator. The refrigerator handle falls off... We then go upstairs to put our things in the master bedroom, which was the main reason we booked this cabin because of the room had beautiful big windows to see the fall scenery outside. I open the door to the room and it’s really cold inside. I turn on the lights and see that the door to the balcony in the room is completely open (we found out later it had been open since the cleaning people came last, which was 4 days prior...). The cabinets to the dressers were also wide open, which creeped me out. I’m looking around the room and notice something strange; the walls are moving. Upon closer inspection, the walls were covered with wasps that must have come in through the door and were moving slowly as they were starting to warm up. The room also had one of those jacuzzis these cabins often have in the master. It was filled with dead ladybugs. I’m talking like maybe 100 of them. NOPE. It’s around 8 pm at this point and we call the cabin company to try to fix the whole situation since there was no way in hell I was sleeping in that bedroom that night. Apparently they had one cleaning person for their cabins for the ENTIRE MOUNTAIN so we had to wait quite some time for them to get there. After they came and tried to get rid of as many wasps as possible, we still found more and decided we felt more comfortable sleeping in the little guest room on the bottom floor (thank goodness there was one). The next day was absolutely gorgeous. Since it was dark when we arrived, we couldn’t see just how beautiful the fall foliage was around our cabin. It was a perfect fall sunny day and things were starting to look up. We called an exterminator to try to fix the wasp issue some more before we went out for the day. 3 years prior to this, FH and I did a very similar cabin trip in Gatlinburg and there was this scenic overlook we wanted to stop at last time, but couldn’t for some reason. I guess FH had in his mind to return to that overlook to propose. Since it was a gorgeous fall day, there were a bunch of people at the overlook. He didn’t want to propose in front of all those people and was trying to get me to go off to the side a bit, but I was being stubborn because I wanted to get a “good picture” lol. Finally, I relent and go off to the side with him. He starts saying the stuff people say right before they propose and then he gets down on one knee. I’m the most awkward person in crowds when the attention is put on me, so I was giggling and being all weird and not at all the super cute way girls look then they’re getting proposed to. I said yes of course and then ran to the car because people were honking at us and cheering and all that. Once I was able to calm down and stop being awkward and was able to be excited, we spent the day walking around the Smoky Mountain National Park and then had some moonshine at Ole Smoky Moonshine. We finished off the night soaking in the hot tub at our cabin under the most beautiful starry night. We never ended up sleeping in the master bedroom and the weekend was a bit of a s@$!show, but we wouldn’t change a thing and it makes for a pretty great story!
