How Did You Do Your Hair and Makeup for Trying on Dresses?

Kiwi Kawaii, on September 3, 2015 at 4:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

So I love the WW community. Everyone is so kind and helpful! And you all are totally going to be sick of me by the time my wedding is over and done. Smiley tongue (I've posted like 5 forum discussions in two days)

Anyway, I am super nervous about trying on dresses for the first time (If you happened to see another one of my discussions, I made an appointment with David's bridal by myself first to get a feel for what looks good on me. Then I will bring my mom out from WV soon after with favorites in mind).

What did you do with your hair and makeup for trying on dresses. I read that it helps color your impression to look a little polished. I am not afraid to admit I have my insecurities with my looks, so I want to do what I can to give myself a good first look! So ladies, share your style tips with me!! (I don't do much with my hair and makeup on a regular basis. So doing anything feels weird sometimes haha)

Nothing out of the ordinary; I didn't even know that was a thing. Welcome to WW. Just do what you normally do. When you find the dress, you will know it.

I would honestly not recommend doing too much. You are putting dress after dress over your head which would mess up your hair and likely smear your makeup as well. Put your hair up and make yourself comfortable. Bring a strapless bra if you have one and maybe a pair of your favorite heels (but they will provide this for you anyway).

I put make up on like I normally would if I was going to a party or something. I also had my hair in a half up half down style similar to what I want for the wedding. I did try dresses one day where I didn't have any makeup and my hair looked messy and it was hard for me to envision myself at the wedding.

I just did what I consider basic makeup: foundation, bronzer, blush, eye line, mascara, lip gloss. For my hair I wore it down as I plan to for our wedding. I don't think you need to go all out, if you are not a big make up person just do some mascara and lip gloss/lip stick.

I don't normally wear make up, but I put on some mascara and a little bit of lip gloss. I pulled my hair back (half up/half down) to give myself the idea of what I wanted it to look like. When I chose my dress, we decided I'd do an updo though to show off the buttons.

You don't want to wear too much because you don't want to get the makeup all over the samples. Here's a pic from when I tried on my dress to give you an idea. I thought it helped to put on a tiny bit of makeup and make sure my hair was nice and smooth (not frizzy like it tends to get).

ETA: I also wore pearls and earrings to give myself an idea, but decided against those with my dress.

ETA2: I also wore a nice pair of undies, a strapless bra, and my fave pair of heels (I'm on the short side 5'3")

I did my make up as if I were dressing up a little bit (like maybe a little heavier than I would for work) and put my hair up because I didn't want it in the way. The at my fittings I wore hair down one day, hair up another to see it with the dress. I would recommend at least getting dressed up enough that you feel good about yourself. I've had many a day in fitting rooms where the clothes looked great but I couldn't pull the trigger because I couldn't get past my post gym hair and make up in a cocktail dress.

The first time I went, I wore my hair down and forgot a hairtie. Big mistake. My hair was all over the place, covering up the necklines of the dresses, getting super static-y. I also totally overdid my makeup.

The second time I went, I put my hair up in a bun and it was great! My hair didn't distract from the dresses at all and I got a clear view of what everything would look like with my hair up. I also did my makeup more normal/neutral and found that it helped to not take away from the dress. (That way I wasn't staring at my bright red lips in the mirror instead of the beautiful dress I was wearing.)

    Hope this helps!

Whenever I'm going clothes shopping I always try to feel good about how my hair and make-up looks. There is nothing worse then going shopping and looking like crap/feeling like crap, nothing will look good, at least for me.

I did light makeup and did my hair. That's what makes me feel pretty, so I felt prettier in everything I tried.

I did my hair and makeup exactly how I would for work everyday. I knew I would be getting an updo, so I pulled my hair back in a low bun and left my side bangs out.

If you wear makeup or are planning to wear makeup on your wedding day, yes do your makeup. White dresses wash you out, and there is a reason the SYTTD shows "jack the girls up". It helps to see the full effect. And you will look better in the pics you will be showing people Smiley smile

I didn't. I hopped off an overnight flight and freshened up. I figured if the dress is that amazing when I look my worst, just wait until my wedding day when I'm all done up!

I agree with @Staci and @Rachael - getting in and out of dresses is hard work! Even when you have a staff helping you.

I only went with basic makeup (especially no mascara / eyeliner for me since mine smudges easily). Putting your hair up would make changing easier - It's also better for trying on veils. I tied my hair into a bun even though I already knew I'm going with a half-do for the wedding.

I went in with normal make up, nothing extra but definitely not bare faced, hair half up, and wore a strapless bra and boyshort undies. I figured the consultant didn't really want to see my full butt Smiley smile

Like this! =) this was the selfie I took while trying on my dress and veil. I had bought the headband at icing, cause I wanted it to wear with my veil, and the ones at the bridal stores were $100 or more!!

If you plan to wear your hair up for the wedding then I suggest wearing it up for the appointment. I didn't and my daughter had to dig a hair tie out of her purse lol.
