How did you break the news? 💍

Chrysta, on September 22, 2020 at 10:47 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 27
There have been lots of posts about how SO’s proposed, but I’m curious.... how did everyone announce the big news to their family & friends?? Did you tell people privately? Announce it in a big way? Post it on social media?

My fiancé and I kept the engagement secret for a few days so that we could tell our parents at Christmas. We told my parents, my brother and SIL at their house before we all went to my grandma’s for dinner. My dad was so excited he blurted it out to everyone at my grandma’s during dinner 😆
We wanted to keep it quiet until all the rest of our families knew, but then I posted a picture of me & the new puppy on Instagram & I was wearing the ring! 🤦🏼‍♀️ How did you break the news? 💍 1
Since a few people noticed & commented on it, we figured we’d better make the announcement. So I posted this picture on Facebook with no explanationHow did you break the news? 💍 2I had always said I was never getting married, so people were messaging asking if it was true or a joke! 😆 So we both made an “official” announcement on each of our FB pages & changed our relationship status to “engaged”. How did you break the news? 💍 3

I'm more of a shy person, so I sent a text to my family/friends. My fiance called his parents, and texted his friends. I kept it off social media until we had shared it with everyone we wanted to tell personally, and then I posted it on social media almost a week later.

Literally all of our important people knew except me lol. Our parents and siblings knew when and how he would do it, in fact our sisters were actually present for picture taking. I called my mom after that it was official, and she told my grandmother, who basically told the whole rest of the family. We each texted our closest friends the next day, and then we made a big Facebook announcement a couple days after that.

My fiance took me out of town for my birthday last year, it was just us. After we proposed, I posted it on facebook and snapchat. It was just easier than calling everyone one by one. It just depends on your personality and how you both want people to know.

So my poor fiancé was pretty much still on one knee when I called my best friend to tell her because I was so excited. I’ll never tell my parents that though...after, I called my mom, who didn’t answer, then called my dad who did and they happened to be together (they are divorced and were going through some belongings together) so that’s how we told them. We stopped at my fiancé’s sister’s house to show her and celebrate a bit because she was a 2 minute drive from where he proposed. Then we went to his parents’ house to tell them. FaceTimed his other two sisters and my cousin and aunt. I told my 3 best friends via text/phone call. We posted it on Facebook later that night after dinner with my parents and after we went to our town’s Christmas tree lighting so we could just enjoy some alone time together before everyone blew up our phones/social media.

We kept it secret for awhile actually and I wanted to do something fun to announce it and then one day while I was at work (I work at a prison so I can't have my phone or social media, but I can get on WW lol) She changed her relationship status on Facebook and spoiled the whole thing so theres that lol

We went on a spring vacation to Lake Tahoe and the first night we were there he proposed!!! Then we immediately called our parents cause they had no idea lol. I also texted a few close friends a picture of my ring soon after. I didn't post about it to social media until a couple days later cause I just wanted to enjoy our vacation together and have our own private time. 🙂

We were out of town on a weekend trip with our best friends. Everyone on the trip all knew he was proposing that weekend. After he proposed, we called our parents, siblings, and my grandma. We texted a few other people and then posted on social media later after all our close family heard the good news.

We were away and weren’t going to be back home for another week, so I called my sister first to tell her, then my mom and then my best friend. It was late at night so I texted a few other very close friends to let them know.
We actually were meeting his parents the next day for our vacation so I basically hid my ring until we had dinner together and showed them.
I also called my grandparents to tell them the following day. Once that was all done we took some pictures and announced it on social media.

We went out to dinner that night and asked the server to take our picture (that one that everyone has where the bride just happens to have her left hand positioned visibly on the groom's chest).
I wanted to enjoy it without anyone else's reaction, so we waited 24 hours to group text the photo, without comment, to our families. (I sent one text to my parents and siblings and one to his sister-in-law, I think he sent one to his parents and a separate one to his siblings.) We all knew it was coming so no one was surprised, but his mom immediately called and said, very loudly, "YOU KNOW I'VE BEEN WAITING A LONG TIME FOR THIS!"

It was during the stay at home order, so we FaceTimed parents and his grandparents and called/texted others. Then, we posted it to social media with a cute photo.

The day after we got engaged, we went to his parents house and then my parents house to tell them in person. We then called/texted other close friends/family. After we had privately told all the VIPs, then we made it Facebook official.

We kept it to ourselves the day he proposed, but I texted my sisters and parents the next day, and then my closest friends. At work I showed my ring off to people, but I don’t even think former co-workers or acquaintances/former friends know since I don’t post it on social media.

We got engaged in front of a lot of friends, so we made some quick phone calls (at midnight... but it was NYE)...

The next day we made a few more phone calls, and then posted on social media. It actually got dicey, because DH's aunt wasn't picking up any of her phones! And I had work!

But, we managed in the end, and then our friends had filmed the proposal, so that went up, as well.

We got engaged at home with just the two of us, and we waited a week to tell anyone because we were going on a trip to my parents house the next week, and we knew they would be upset if we didn't tell them in person. So we waited until the night before we left on our trip to tell his parents and siblings (with the promise of secrecy until we told mine) and then we told my family at lunch when we got there. Then it was spread through social media and phone lines lol!

I got engaged the day before Thanksgiving. We had a Friendsgiving that evening, so I just told the small group of friends there. The next day when my parents arrived for Thanksgiving, I said “guess what?” And when they replied I held my hand out! I called/FaceTimed/texted my other close friends to tell and show them. About a week later I did the cliche boomerang posting on my IG lol.

We got engaged super fast, after only 2 months of dating. We knew his parents were going to be freaked out, so we kept it off social media for a bit. The night we got engaged, I texted my two best friends. We called my sister and told her, then drove down to my dad's and told him in person. The next day, he went down to his parents' house and told them in person. They were not exactly thrilled, but accepted the matter. Once that was done, we put it on Facebook. People went CRAZY. Especially because I had been widowed for 7 years, and I think a lot of people wondered why I hadn't met someone before... But I knew I would find the one worth waiting for Smiley smile
