How close together are you wearing your corset dress?

Mrs.Mayes, on May 4, 2014 at 10:43 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

I put my dress on layaway at Davids Bridal in march. I payed it off a week ago and went to go get it. I put it on again to see it with the slip I was buying. I bought it knowing full well the consultant said she thought I needed a bigger size. I don't like it when corsets are as close as they say they should be. My grandmother agreed that she liked it my way better. As soon as I came out of the dressing room one of the consultants made a rather rude face and her eyes got wide. She was acting like it was five sizes too small, which it isn't. This has made me wonder how everyone else is wearing their corset dress. I've added a picture of what the back of mine looked like. Anyone agree with the consultant that it's too small or was she just being rude?

I am pulling mine so tight so it gives an hourglass shape.... thats the point of a corset.

I think the spacing of your corset looks lovely! Just make sure the flap behind the ribbon is properly adjusted on your wedding day.

@ren thanks she was really trying to hurry up with me so she didn't attach the flap part or lace the whole thing. She did every other lace.

@terry I didn't mean how tight. I meant how far the spacing is and it still being just as tight.

It looks fine... just adjust the modesty panel or get a large piece of fabric to endure your back is covered where the laces are .

One thing I have found about corset dresses is that if the modest panel is too small to cover the hole (which yours looks like it is) it is too small.

I agree with heather a if the modesty panel doesn't hit the other side of the dress than it is too small. at most I have a 3inch gap on my back with my corset back

What does the front look like (did you take a picture)? If you saw the consultant giving you a bad look, she must have seen the front and not the back (or did you see her face in a mirror).

I agree with the others about the modesty panel, but if it was just rushed like you said then I think it looks okay!

I wore mine tighter and I found as the night went on, it loosened up as I moved around so take that into consideration, too.

The panal was sideways a little when she just stared lacing it anyway. It does attach to the other side. I saw her face in the mirror.

I think it looks a tad too snug. I would go a size bigger.

I actually had my dress altered at the last minute because I lost a couple pounds and the corset was completely closed. I think there should be around a three inch gap. Much more than that and the dress will look too small.

Personally I think it looks too small, but if that it's how you want it to look then go for it!

If that's the look you want, they can put in a wider modesty panel for you. They can basically do anything, so ignore the shitty sales consultant.

Typically the top corset lace should have about a 6" width. If it's any smaller than the bottom lace will bunch to close together. I think wider is softer and classier. It should be wide enough to show the beauty of the corset itself.

I actually like the way your corset is tied; however, I also think it might be a size too small.

You don't look like you're busting out of it and you said she did it up in a rush so go ahead with ya bad self (as long as you can move comfortably in it).

I can move fine in it. Also starting in june I usually lose anywhere from 10-20 pounds because I go swimming a lot and walk. So I probably will be a little smaller by the wedding

If you like it that far apart, go for it. Just make sure the modesty panel is adjusted or replaced so it covers that skin gap that's showing.
