How big is your rehearsal dinner?

KristenMeowza, on August 13, 2014 at 1:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 60

I am only slightly freaking the fuck out over the size of our guest list for the rehearsal dinner. Granted, not everyone will attend, but it has skyrocketed to 62! Not only that, but FH and I already combed over the entire list and there was not one person we could scratch off. The only people invited who are not family or in the bridal party are my 2 friends who live in Japan.

At this rate our rehearsal dinner will probably be like $700. Guess it could be worse? Someone please tell me I'm not crazy for having a rehearsal dinner that's half the size of the entire wedding...

@Mrs. V V I KNOW! *dies* Well FH's mom is paying for half of it and FH has like 10 aunts and uncles. Didn't seem fair not inviting my side of the family if he invited his. :/

@Janeen 5 on each side (plus SO's), 3 ushers, and dog attendant.

Our saving grace is we're using the wedding venue and getting cheap BBQ catered at $11/pp.

Big. I haven't counted it but big. FH's mom is inviting all of his siblings, regardless of if they are in the wedding or not. FH is one of 9. I figure if she wants to pay, so be it.

Yes, 62 seems big, but if there's no one to scratch off, what are you going to do?

We are only inviting immediate family (no aunts and uncles) and bridal party with SOs. Otherwise it would be HUGE! Each parent is 1 of 8 (except my mom).

@Barbara You're right. And invitations have all been sent, so it's not like we're going to uninvite people. Just the sheer number alone is overwhelming to me. It is what it is!

Struggling to get back to the DGAF club....

I just a quick count in my head of what the numbers would be and stopped when I got to 35, that counted Chris and I, our parents, the bridal party, their significant others and our grandparents...that didn't include any readers, the officiant or out of town guests...

Woah! That's a big rehearsal dinner. I think we are going to be close to 30, but I'd like less than that!

Girl! I feel you! I thought ours was going to be 30-35 max, which I thought was too big. But, FMIL has decided to invite the whole fan damn. I think it's like 50-56 now. WTF?!?!?!

Mine's 35-40, because my immediate family is so big. I'm trying to dissuade the parents from inviting the out of town relatives. Our rehearsal is in the morning, and the dinner is really lunch, so we'll have time to socialize with them casually that afternoon/early evening.

Rehearsal dinner will only be bride, groom, bridal party (including officiant who is a friend), and parents. just the people who participate in the rehearsal. so, 12. we have maybe 12 out of town guests that will arrive that evening or the day of the wedding. but we plan to spend the whole weekend with them and everyone else. wedding is a friday night.

I kept to the strict rules on RD: bridal party members and parents and that's it. We have 3 on each side, a flower girl, and parents. But hey, if it's not blowing the budget and it's cool, that's wonderful. That is an entire party of itself so it sounds overwhelming.

We have about 40 coming and are paying just over $1300. So I would say that's a good deal!
