Hotel room block for small wedding?

Ameline, on April 29, 2016 at 12:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Someone asked me the other day about a hotel room block/group rate. It hadn't occurred to me to make one since we are only having 20-30 people. Can you even get a group rate if it's 10-15 rooms at most? I'm happy to contact hotels about this, but I assumed you would need a lot more rooms to get a rate. I also don't have any preference about where people stay.

I have 10 rooms for Friday and 20 for Saturday so they should accommodate you.

I think it's worth reaching out and asking! The hotel i'm using only does a block rate if we have a certain amount of rooms booked. We don't know if we'll hit their number-- but they still do offer a discount code for people staying there for my wedding regardless of how many are there. The block rate at my hotel includes different perks-- later check out, parking, etc. But, the actual discount is still the same.

I would definitely ask. I have 20 rooms per hotel, but both hotel said we can push that number down or up.

I have ten rooms for a small wedding. We don't have to pay or meet any minimums (I wouldn't have done it otherwise). Unfortunately because it's a small block we don't get any perks--no bridal suites, no later check-outs, etc but at least there are rooms saved since there's a big event the Tuesday after our Sunday wedding.

WW has a hotel block tool hidden somewhere. Use that, it's a lifesaver.

Depends on the size of the hotel and what else is going on. . .

They will probably do a block for 10 rooms. It's usually the more rooms, the bigger the discount, so I wouldn't expect a rate much different than what they normally offer.

We just gave suggestions on a few hotels that we know are nice and are letting people handle their own reservations.

It might be different since I am having my wedding at the hotel, but we have a block of 10 rooms reserved. They said that will keep the rooms reserved until a certain date at which point they will have to fill them. If all 10 rooms get filled quickly though they are happy to add more on and they get the same discount as a larger block.

We have one at a Ramada - you could block 10 rooms for no charge, at a rate of $109 vs the $165 normal rate. We filled the 10 rooms quickly so they added 6 more for us at the same rate. They also upgraded us to the suite for no extra charge.

Rooms need to be reserved 10 days prior to the date or they lose the discount. If we wanted to block more than 10 rooms in the beginning they required a deposit on them so we didn't do that.
