Hotel blocks or just listing the hotels surrounding the venue

Ti'Anna, on February 27, 2020 at 8:23 PM Posted in Planning 2 54
Hey guys
Are you fellow brides doing hotel blocks for your guest? Are you doing hotel blocks at one hotel, two? Or are you simply listing surrounding hotels to the venue?

With our original wedding plan in California, we had a hotel block at 2 different hotels for our guests. Now being in Vegas, I've been told they don't do hotel blocks. I'm not sure if all of them or just the ones I've called. With that being said, we will now be listing nearby hotels. If you do a hotel block, see if they can do a courtesy block where you wouldn't be financially responsible for the rooms.

We’re just listing 3 hotels and linking AirBNB in the vicinity of the reception. I didn’t want to have to guess on how many people were going to get rooms, especially since as a guest, I prefer to find my own accommodations.

I'm sure whichever you do, everything will still be fine.

    We chose to list.
We only sent 20 out of town invitations.
And EVERYONE on our guest list either grew up in the area, or has visited the area in the last 5 years. If we had guests who had never been here, we would consider blocking. But it didnt make sense to us to do so.

We have probably 75 rooms worth of people we invited (likely they won’t all come). We didn’t want to pay for blocks, so we got the maximum courtesy blocks at 2 hotels (10-12 each). The only annoying thing is that we have to ask every so often if they’re filled up so we can add rooms. There’s no way to do this online.

We aren’t doing any blocks we are just listing a few places nearby at different price points to give some options. We didn’t have a lot of out of town guests either so it didn’t seem necessary

We're just listing. The area we are in will be in the off season during our wedding and even in the on season it's not super touristy to start with. And we don't have a ton of out of town guests and most of the ones we do have are family that are likely to stay with in town family over a hotel

Thinking about doing the same. I just have a feeling out of town guest will try to stay with the local guest!

We didn’t do room block simple because we are having a destination wedding and around the holidays Christmas and NEW YEAR and we did not want to have the expenses if all rooms were not booked. Our wedding website stated depending on YOUR budget and lifestyle here are hotel SUGGESTIONS and we categorize it based on

    **Near venue

*****Downtown / live party area*********Air b n B ....Each category we gave 3 price points hotels suggestions ....And LOT our guest going Air B n B because it’s best for large crowds We Caribbean we come in crowds lolllol

We listed three hotels withing decent driving time and different price points. Hotel blocks are expensive and I am not willing to be on the hook for them!

We did a hotel block at the Fairfield, Marriott has courtesy blocks so it didn't cost us anything and we got discounted rooms which I was happy because it's labor day weekend. they have to book 30 days or more before the wedding, after 30 days the rooms get released.

Okay that sounds good. I'm trying to get a block with Embassy Suites. Its always a hit with our family when we travel.

Def makes sense. Exactly why I've been asking about all kind of contract clauses, so we are not left with the bill.

I did a few blocks. One with our venue (a resort hotel) that only had limited availability for a block, and two other negotiated blocks with nearby hotels. Though so far, hardly any guests have used the offsite hotel blocks. Some of our wedding party got first dibs on the onsite rooms, and other guests have been making arrangements with their own preferred hotel brands (there's quite a few near our venue).
