Hotel blocks or just listing the hotels surrounding the venue

Hey guys Are you fellow brides doing hotel blocks for your guest? Are you doing hotel blocks at one hotel, two? Or are you simply listing surrounding hotels to the venue?

I'm only listing hotels. I live in an area with a big summer tourist influx so the hotels around here book out way in advance. I told everyone from out of the area about what's going on around here and sent the list with a suggestion that they plan ahead so no one gets locked out.

We blocked rooms at a hotel close to our venue. Looking back on it now (since our wedding as a few days ago), I would've just listed hotels in the area because only one guest made use of the room block. Most of our out-of-town guests found their own hotel accommodations and we helped a few close friends out b/c I get discounts on hotels b/c my job gives me IHG hotel discounts.

I booked 4 different hotels - ranging in price - and I only did the complimentary block at each hotel so that I don't have any monetary commitment! Super easy to handle!

We blocked one hotel (the one we are staying at) because it's free as long as we cancel before a certain date. Then I listed another hotel at a lower price point that is right across the street. I definitely don't think it's necessary to do a block - but could be helpful for close family and friends.

We decided not to do hotel blocks because the logistics of our wedding didn't favor it. First of all, we are having a small wedding and most of our guests are within an hour of the venue. For those who are traveling longer distances, the only lodging immediately near our venue is a five room quaint country bed and breakfast, and then guests would need to choose to stay in the town we live in 25 minutes to the west or another town 15 minutes to the east. The closest airports are about 1-2 hours from our venue in either direction, and we have guests coming from either direction; my FH's family lives east of our venue, my family is west. So for us it didn't make sense to pick one hotel option and force people to drive in the opposite direction of where they were coming from (adding either 30-50 minutes to everyone's trip). The town we live in also has plenty of rooms and isn't on a prime travel weekend (its after college graduation and Memorial day weekend, but before K-12 schools get out), so we aren't worried about there not being places for people to stay. We just ended up listing the two nearby towns and recommending people find accommodations that suit them.

    Hi fellow Bride!

We are doing a hotel block and listing vrbo.com as a viable link because our wedding is a destination wedding.

We did hotel blocks at a couple different hotels to give out guests some options. Like previous posts have said, be sure to check if they charge for any rooms not reserved or if they just fall off at a certain time!

My venue is a hotel so they build in a block rate. People are welcome to stay at the hotel/venue or elsewhere, but it's a 4 star hotel and much easier to walk back to your room rather than uber back.

We did a block of rooms at the hotel we're having the ceremony at and I listed the surrounding hotels on our website.

My original plan was to do hotel blocks because I thought the rates would be slightly better. However since this whole Covid-19 started, I've found that rates through 3rd party vendors are considerably less (40 - 50%) than they were 2 months ago. I've notated such details on our wedding website, additionally, our resort is currently closed until Covid-19 clears up so we can't even block rooms at discounted rates.

We have a hotel block of 30 rooms, but we found a hotel that doesn't hold us financially responsible if not every room gets booked. I know a few hotel chains that will do that - ours is Clarion.
