HOSTESS....WHAT SHOULD THEY WEAR???

I had originally told my hostesses the same, to either wear a green or orange dress, but I am thinking I want them to all wear orange since my MOHs are going to be in green. I have to trad lightly, though, because one of my hostesses was very specific in not wanting too much responsibilities or rules before accepting the role, so I don't want to ask too much, but really want them to be in orange.

Thanks ! I am still undecided. I am going to ask one of my hostess if they mind wearing the BM's dress.

I am having my hostess pick out their own dresses as long as it is in my accent color of sunflower yellow. My BM's will be in shades of red, and my mob,and mog will be in orange.

I too did not want my hostess to feel to much financial pressure when it came to their attire. I trust their style and told them what my bm's would be wearing so they can coordinate it with their own choice of dress.

They can wear what ever they want, but let them know what colour the bm's are so they can deicde if they want a shade of that for pics or a complimentary colour.

Okay I'm going to ask a dumb question... what does a hostess do? I've never heard of them/seen them at a wedding before WW.

Julesieeee- the hostess are usually at the reception greeting guest/helping with guestbook and gift tables and whatever else may be needed.

I asked my girls to wear some kind of black dress, whatever style they wanted. I didn't think it was right for me to ask them to buy a certain dress since they arent bridesmaids. And both of my hostesses had black dresses to wear

I'd do what Mrs S said. I don't think they should have to wear the same color all-over as the BMs, but something coordinating would be nice. Assuming you're giving them a corsage, yeah? That would give them a little accent in your colors also.

@Desiree I think having hostesses is a regional/cultural thing. For cake and punch church weddings back home where I'm from, it was really common and it's an honor to be asked. Usually they're doing something prominent like serving the cake and punch or manning the guestbook at the entrance. At least that's what I've seen.

Since one of my BM's is short, she is having a lot of length cut off her dress. we are sending swatches of that fabric with the groom when they pick out vests and ties and to our hostesses so they have it when they pick out their dresses.

I just called them greeters. I have two friends that will be passing out the programs. I told them to wear green or whatever they want.

I didn't realize it was such an important job....

Jessica I do believe it is an important job....my hostess will be the first faces guests will see upon entering our venue... I didn't realize I would need one until recently.

Wow, I've never heard of this. I'd let them wear what they want, as long as it's pretty and comfortable. Add a corsage and you're good to go.

That's what I thought... ^^^ we are having ushers and they are wearing what they want.

We have ushers for the ceremony but they will wear the same as groomsmen. Hostess will wear what they but in the same color as the BMs

I have never heard of this! I feel like it would be weird telling someone to buy a dress in a specific color when they are not part of the bridal party...

Ohh okay I always knew them as greeters. And I would imagine they'd wear whatever they want.

I agree with Celia. They wear whatever they want and pin on a flower. Our DJ is going to greet all of our guests and tell them where to get drinks etc.
