Horrible DJ Experience

I need a place to vent. My husband and I got back from our honeymoon yesterday and have a phone conference scheduled with the owner of the DJ company we hired this afternoon. Let me start off by saying that we did not cheap out on this service. We needed a bilingual DJ and hired a company based in Miami and Chicago that "specializes" in this. It wasn't an easy find and we read reviews online, had multiple phone meetings before making this decision. We debated hiring a local person who would be a lot cheaper but didn't have bilingual reception experience, but eventually went with the bigger company because we know how much a DJ matters.

Fast forward to our wedding day. This is after multiple conversations confirming everything and we were told everything was good to go. I had given them my day of coordinators contact info as well as the manager of our venue. After the ceremony the bridal party takes pictures and my husband and I are seeing the decorated space for the first time (cont)

Oh my OP! That set up looks amazing and all that was there was a regular table and black table cloth? I would contact the photographer and see if I can get a picture with the dj's set up in the background to show to the company. That is beyond ridiculous. Please post an update when you hear from the manager! You should have a full refund and the $150 toward the photographer overtime. Was there any video you had that might have caught the sound of the phone ringing and youtube commercials?

This sounds like something I'd see on judge judy.

As others have said, I hope you get reimbursed and then some. Keep us updated!

Nicole had a great idea to get the photo/video evidence to support your side of the story!

    I'm so sorry this happened!

Omg. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I think we're all wishing we could be there to fight with you in full force!

I'm glad you are taking action. This company needs to be held responsible for their complete ineptitude and failure to provide professional quality services. I'm not sure what your contract says, but use all the documented evidence you can find, emails, meetings, etc. to support your case.

Wow that's awful! I'm so sorry. You should ask for a full refund AND you should ask for the costs to reimburse to extend your photographer's time.

O&S your BAM is showing as flagged now? Smiley sad

    **update**

He wasn't calling us back so I called him. Said DJ is unavailable until 6 but we talked more. He kept on using the construction as an excuse and I told him that I was tired of him going back to that excuse. He said he needed to talk to the DJ because he didn't want to say we were lying but this has never happened before. I reminded him of all the things in our contract that they broke and said we wanted our money back. He asked if there was anything else he could do. That he would come personally and DJ our next event. I said no way, we want our money back. Like seriously we want to plan a whole new wedding just for him to come DJ- he's crazy! He said he's not made of money and I stuck to my guns and said we didn't get the service we paid for. He's supposedly calling the DJ again right now.

"Next event" that always cracks me up when vendors offer that. Like everyone just has big fancy events all the time. And even if you did would you really trust him not to mess it up again? Geez! I'd be asking for quite a bit more than what you paid! You not only incurred additional costs because of him but also had a huge problem on your wedding day. Hell, even if it was the construction being late wasn't the only issue he also didn't provide the service you paid for once he got there. "Made of money"? Lol! You paid him and his employee messed up. Don't want to have to deal with this? Hire better people.

I'm sorry there is no excuse. I hope the owner offered you a refund and btw I would make sure to review that company so that others don't go through same thing on their day. Did this happen in Chicago or Miami ?? I live close to Chicagoland area.

    Chicago.

Ok so the owner calls me with the DJ to do a conference call but will only speak in Spanish so my husband can't understand. He flat out lied about everything. I told the owner this was not the way to solve the problem because he was lying. Among things he said he arrived at 4:45 and was completely set up by 5:20. Said I told him he couldn't change. I told the owner I wasn't going to sit down and let him lie like this and this was on him for allowing it to get to this point. The DJ then said well I can't remember exactly but maybe if you had a video I could because he knew we didn't have a videographer. So thankfully I have family members who did record my dad and I dancing and I sent it to the owner who is now privately talking to the DJ. So unprofessional. He hasn't even said he would give us a full refund just that this has never happened before.

Jesus Christ at the lying DJ. I'm glad you have some proof. Hopefully this will actually make the owner provide a full refund not only for the poor job but also due to a lying DJ. Very unprofessional and damaging to them!

Oh goodness, I'm so very sorry!

This is seriously my biggest fear. I am in the process of hiring a bilingual DJ as well, and I'm just so terrified they'll screw it up.

You also have all of the cell phone call logs, which show that you all were calling numerous times! Don't back down!

Have you considered contacting a lawyer? It might be time to do so. Get as much video and photo evidence as you can and make sure you have a copy of the contract. A signed statement from the DOC and venue may also help.

@Reggie, I was thinking the same thing. Why ON EARTH would OP hire them for future events after the unfortunate joke she received in lieu of a professional?! OP, I am so sorry you have to go through this after what you dealt with on your wedding day.

If he doesn't call us soon and tells us we are getting a full refund we will have to take legal steps. I'm so surprised that he would think it be a good idea to conference us all in. I work in a bank and that would be like our CEO putting a customer and teller on the line. So so so unprofessional.

@Nessa for us all of his reviews were amazing so we would never have predicted this. All of our meetings were great too. Good luck! I would ask if you can attend an event they are working to get the real in person experience.

OMG! Please take them to court. This is beyond ridiculous and absurd. They arrived late and then were rude and unprofessional. You called them out for being rude and unprofessional and they came back to be even more rude?!?! Get someone on your side now and next call you have, record it on DHs phone so you have a record.

    *UPDATE*

I feel like i just got off the phone with a child. He wasn't calling me back so I finally did and we started talking again. I told him i wanted a full refund and he agreed, but said he could only give us back the service fee and not the travel fee (seriously). I told him that was unacceptable. We went back and forth for an hour. He kept on asking us to think about it and said it wasn't fair and how we were taking advantage (seriously). finally when I saw that this wasn't going any where I mentioned taking action ( I didn't event mention the word legal -- he just knew). He then said he could send us a check for the DJ Service and send us "little by little" the rest. I told him we couldn't do a payment plan. He again kept on saying it wasn't fair and eventually even said we were wrong (i know..). When we wouldn't agree to anything less than the full amount (plus the extra photog fee) he FINALLY agreed to pay it all. He said he is sending a check tomorrow so we'll see.

I feel so relieved that this is finally over and now just hoping he does actually send the money back.

Hopefully he will send the money. You might want to send him an email summarizing the discussion you had and include details and ask for confirmation in case it gets down to legal action.

I had issues w my landlord and I was so glad all of our communication was through text/email so I had documentation.

    Good luck!
