Horrible DJ Experience

Weddingbelle13, on June 28, 2016 at 2:30 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 91

I need a place to vent. My husband and I got back from our honeymoon yesterday and have a phone conference scheduled with the owner of the DJ company we hired this afternoon. Let me start off by saying that we did not cheap out on this service. We needed a bilingual DJ and hired a company based in Miami and Chicago that "specializes" in this. It wasn't an easy find and we read reviews online, had multiple phone meetings before making this decision. We debated hiring a local person who would be a lot cheaper but didn't have bilingual reception experience, but eventually went with the bigger company because we know how much a DJ matters.

Fast forward to our wedding day. This is after multiple conversations confirming everything and we were told everything was good to go. I had given them my day of coordinators contact info as well as the manager of our venue. After the ceremony the bridal party takes pictures and my husband and I are seeing the decorated space for the first time (cont)

And I notice the DJ is not there. I see my coordinator calling and calling him. I'm not one to sit back so I take my phone and try to call too. No answer. They were supposed to arrive at 4:00

And be completely set up by 5 to announce us at 5:30. Meanwhile our guests are at cocktail hour enjoying the mariachi band we hired. I keep on getting a voicemail and at this point felt completely hopeless when at 5:15 my maid of honor runs in and tells me they arrived. I ask them why so late and he says he called the owner and let him know but I guess he didn't feel it necessary to call my DOC, venue manager or myself to tell me. We ended up extending cocktail hour and finally were ready to let everyone in to the space and be introduced. (Cont)

Sorry he just called here is our list of what all happened.

Arrived at 5:15 and wedding party couldn't walk in until 5:45 had to delay the end of cocktail hour. Which lead us to having to keep our photographer for half an hour later ($150).

We were not told there would be a delay. When the DJ arrived he told us he let Steven know of the delay which was not communicated to our venue or us.

No music when bridal party was introduced until last 2 couples walked in.

Cut Best man off during speech.

Wrong song was played at start of bouquet toss then switched to correct one.

Was told to invite guests to dance floor after bridal party dance and didn't do that.

Wore jeans and shirt for first hour and a half.

Set up during dinner and didn't finish until 6:45.

Could hear text ring tones during father daughter dance because Music was being played from their phone.

    Could hear commercials during songs.

We asked multiple times to slow it down and play some Spanish music but they didn't until about half an hour went by. When they finally did that was all they played instead of switching it back and forth.

Music skipped a lot during first hour and a half of dancing. At some points it would stop for a few seconds.

Only 5 songs from top music sheet was played. Had to download our requested final song because they didn't have it.

Set up wasn't package we ordered. We paid for the princess package and the setup did not look like what was ordered.

    Talked during first dance.

The owner is calling the DJ to get his point of view then calling us back. Sigh. Thanks for letting me vent.

Also my DOC realized he was playing music off his phone so that explained the text tones and YouTube commercials.

Well this DJ sounds utterly AWFUL. Be sure to write up a lengthy review, and I really hope you'll be getting a refund. I'm sorry = (

He is using construction as an excuse for being late but we had family that took that exact same route with no problems. I will always have horrible memories of wondering if we'd even have a DJ. It was awful.

What a total nightmare! I would DEFINITELY be pitching a huge fit over this and threatening to file complaints with the BBB and post apocalyptic reviews on every website out there, unless they gave me a FULL refund.

That is horrifying. You need a refund and a reimbursement that covers all the overtime you incurred

On the bright side, well, no, there is no bright side. If you need a script, just let me know, but you want all your money back plus enough to cover the overages.

ETD; there is no excuse for being late. I have been late exactly one time in 10 years.
