Honoring your wedding date after postponing

Alex, on June 8, 2020 at 2:18 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
Hi all!

I know so many brides have had to make the heartbreaking decision to postpone their wedding this year. My best friend was supposed to get married in a few weeks but decided to postpone. As her MOH I want to put together something special for her and her fiancé to recognize their original date but get them excited about what’s to come, but I’m at a loss! Has anyone put together anything similar, or any ideas?

I think getting them a bottle of nice champagne would be a sweet gesture, or if restaurants are open you could get them a gift certificate that would cover a meal, dessert, and drinks. When we considered postponing, I just wanted to spend the day with my husband, and it sounds like most couples have just made their original date a private celebration (not including family or friends), so I would say gifting them something they can enjoy just the two of them would be nice.

Make sure u send her kind words on her original wedding day. Maybe you can get her other bridesmaids to message or call her. Or you guys can do a Group FaceTime/zoom/houseparty. The one thing I kind of wished on our day was if more people reached out to me. Not that I was expecting much but just a simple hey so sorry today was supposed to be ur wedding day and showing their support would have meant a lot.

Maybe you can tell her & her FH to get dressed up and set the table and u can order takeout to be delivered to them for a romantic dinner. On my original date fh got me flowers and i got dressed up, made us a drink, and cooked dinner.

I'd second that - people remembering it is your day and reaching out is really important. Even just a text from you will mean a lot!

I would do a mini cake (like the 3" ones), a bottle of champagne, and maybe if you know what their first dance song was going to be, you can send a recording of it?

My fiancé and I did a champagne toast to our love and ate cheesecake while watching movies 🤷🏼‍♀️ Nothing like we expected but it was cute. Honoring your wedding date after postponing 1

Sending a super sweet text or email would be awesome. If you could drop of a basket of goodies (champagne, chocolate, maybe a silly mini board or card game or Mad Libs), that would be fun! Or if you love too far, maybe a gift certificate to GrubHub or some online restaurant delivery service? Even a mailed card is such a nice idea. What a good friend!

Thank you all so much for the great ideas! I think I’m going to go forward with a small cake, some champagne, and encourage the rest of the bridal party to reach out with kind thoughts. 💗
